Hello!

I recently gave a whole heap of baby clothes, wraps, toys, pram & other baby gear that I wasn’t needing anymore to someone I thought was really needy. The story was that their house burnt down & they had hardly anything left from the fire. I kindly donated it all feeling sorry for the family. I soon found out that it was a small fire in the lounge & was caused by the mother falling asleep with a cigarette. There are children in the house as well. This didn’t bother me so much but then I found my stuff for sale on local sale sites eg: gumtree. I really want to say something but don’t have the courage. Not happy jan

  • Thats terrible….I guess the main thing is The spirit in which you gave those items…..we can only ever be responsible for our own actions not this of others and Kama will take care of the rest.

  • That is really Rude! Good on you for trying to help out!

  • Such a shame that you now feel your kind deed has been misguided. Unfortunately some people can act in ways that seem unscrupulous.

  • it would be one thing if they hadn’t asked for them but this behaviour spoils it for the real needy

  • What a cheek and how rude, I’d be saying something.

  • I would speak up for sure. That’s extremely rude. Good on you for being so generous though. It’s horrible how people take advantage of other’s kind acts.

  • Love and hugs are being sent to you for your generous help and kind ways. It was very wrong of this woman but sadly the world has all kinds..But I do believe in what goes around comes around and she will get her karma back.

  • Wow what a thing to have found out, try not to let it effect you as it will come back to you 10 fold and she will be found out in the long run

  • That would be horrible to discover. Certainly not in the spirit that the items were offered.

  • The world is made up of all sorts. I`ve been taken advantage of before by people that have been friends for years, I found, that to some people money means more than friendships, which is very sad. Karma will pay her back.

  • I was just say something the other day to my mum about how I don’t take anyone at face value anymore, and my sympathy levels are at an all time low. I work in pharmacy and the amount of people that lie, cheat and steal is unbelievable.

  • How sad that you think you are helping people and this happens. You still did the kind thing, its the people who you donated the stuff to that should be ashamed of themselves.

  • That is so horrible. You were just being a nice person, and it backfired. Hope this lady gets her bad karma. What a joke.

  • I see a lot of this on Facebook sites I have with but and sell and mum groups, it’s wrong she is taking advantage of people to make money, try and name and shame her in the area, even maybe make a formal report of safety of children to correct government agencies especailly if you have address.i hate people that rip people off that try and help them out, I am always giving things to needy I tend to now give to vinnies unless I know them personally.

  • I read about the same problem on facebook of people donating items to mothers with sob stories and they claim they have no money so can’t afford to buy items and then those same items are being sold on facebook selling pages, we always name and shame them.

  • That is dreadful. We had a really hard time over the last few years (medical complications with births, serious illness for my husband, redundancy, the death of one of our babies, and finally I had a stroke four weeks after our fourth child was born, despite having no risk factors). Someone I had never met, and only chatted to on-line, offered to send me some outgrown baby clothes for my daughter, who was wearing boy hand me downs because I couldn’t justify buying girl stuff. I really really treasured those clothes. Every time I dressed my daughter in one of them, I thought of the generousity of that stranger. It was really emotionally helpful too, during a difficult patch; it made me smile on some dark days. So please know that not everyone is out to take advantage, and some people really would appreciate this kind of help. I’m still squeezing my girl into one or two items, simply because I so value the kindness behind them.

  • I experienced a similar thing :( I was selling some baby toys and had a family come around and tell me they had very little and couldn’t pay what I was asking. I practically gave the stuff away to them. Around 4 weeks later our dance school held a garage sale as a fundraiser in our dance hall and we sold stalls to people to raise money. These same people booked a stall and were selling the baby items that they had got from me. I was so angry, that these people took advantage of me. Now I very rarely donate anything unless it’s to a registered charity as I just don’t trust people anymore :(

  • There are so many of these people out there that take or ask for things then go and sell it, its not fair but what can you do?? she should have passed them on to someone else, but just remember karma comes back, and not everybody is like that there are some wonderful people in the world, I would tell her how disappointed I was in her and then have nothing or very little to do with them
