My daughter goes to daycare 2 days a week and next year will start prep. How have your kids transitioned from going from a few days at school to a full 5 days a week and what struggles have you come across?

  • From 2 to 5 days, that’s a big jump. Mine had a couple of days at daycare. Then went on to 4 half days at Kinder. Then 4 full days at the start of prep, 5 days after Easter. It was a more gradual increase then you have. Can you increase the days in daycare fir a little while? That may help

  • It will probably be bothering you more than it will be worrying your daughter. She may be a little hesitant at first, with new friends, routines and teachers, but she’ll soon settle in. It will be exciting for her and she’ll hopefully grow to love it, and you’ll love the extra “Me” time that you’ll get.

  • The first few weeks are tough, as they are tired and get a little clingy, but push through as they do get used to it and it’s so worth it.

  • My son only did 2 half days at daycare monday morning and friday morning so like you was very worried when he started kindy and having to do 3 full days.
To our surprise he went through it great the first couple of weeks he was a bit tired earlier than normal but that was it really.
I think we sometimes underestimate our children.

  • My son had a fairly good transition. It was tiring for him in the beginning, not being too used to it, but he had some practice with kindy and childcare while I worked, so he understood most of the rules/routines and now thrives with all the new information he is learning.

  • I think it depends on the personality of the child. Some aren’t fazed & are so excited that they get to play with their friends all day & like learning. Others may struggle with the whole concept of school eg the rules & routines. Others will cry.Yes they’ll be tired especially if they still have daytime naps. Our school offered half days for the first week so the kids could get used to school. I’d make sure you don’t have to do too many things after school & head straight home so they can relax.Perhaps move dinner to an earlier time so it’s literally dinner, bath & bed.

  • they cope well with it but you may find they crash and have a sleep when they get home. At that age kids love going to school and playing with alot of friends
