It sounds like there has been resentment built over the past , and everyone has a choice to choose what is right for them especially when people are judged. Perhaps re-assess the situation and if needed go to a relationship counsellor to determine how and why it happened . If you are confused, you wont feel closure and it will be hard to move on . Also if the past is not solved and you hold onto baggage , then your next relationship won’t be any better . Hope you seek help soon .

If you are in a relationship yourself is there a way your partner could be friends with him and you with her and tell them that the way it has to be if they were to ever find out that you value the frien ship but care about their kids well being more. If they have kids it always good to have someone that can make sure the kid is been cared for properly by both parents. I personally believe the person making the demands should be the one to loose short term. Down the track when things have settled you ould always try to reconnect with them.

I’ve just been in a similar position. By friend has seemingly lost the plot and is making ridiculous demands in the settlement. I understand her pain, but what she’s doing is not helping
