Thank you so much for posting this link. I look around at my friends and sisters raising their kids and think, “how do they do it?”. I am forever getting frustrated with my little poppets, and this morning on our way out the door miss 4 just would not put her shoes on, so after the third time of asking I just snapped and turned around and yelled “JUST DO IT NOW OR I”M GOING TO GET REALLY CROSS”. She of course put them on immediately as I stood their going my poor child what must she think mummies really cross look is when I am yelling like a banshee now.

Your post has come perfectly for me as I explore my little morning epiphany further. Hope you weren’t too harsh on your hubby :)

  • It seems a lot of 4 yo kids decide to be defiant. They either ignore you and don’t do as requested, say “no”, or “I can’t” (in other words you can do it for me)…or the latest comment is “it’s tricky”.

  • Is there a book for raising boys too? Dads aren’t always home to instruct them that something has to be done.
Sometimes if you don’t eventually raise your voice you are simply ignored….. by girls and boys alike.

  • It is too easy to become frustrated and lose it with our kids :,( I think we’re all probably guilty of raising our voices to them at times. Sadly. I try to stop, breathe, mand calm down before I speak now to avoid this. Wish me luck

  • For anyone raising a girl like me – mine is 9 going on 19 – this is the most brilliant book I’ve read.
Raising Girls, by author Gisela Preuschoff – she is an amazing writer and has helped me great deal.
She has a chapter on this very topic here.
