Hello!

My husband was going out to run some errands and asked if I wanted anything from the store. I asked him to get some mince meat and I’d do meatloaf for dinner. He was a happy camper and cheerily bought home the required mince. I put together the meatloaf and popped it in the oven. It smelt great cooking away. My son (who is an adult) came home from work and walked through the kitchen. “Is that meatloaf?” and I happily replied “Yep, meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner tonight”. I thought I was on a winner until he said “But it is pasta night tonight” and sulkily went into his room. I couldn’t believe how predictable my menu planning had become especially since I used to be a lot more spontaneous. Well, at the least the meatloaf was tasty.

  • So what night does the adult son cook the meal?

  • I’m really predictable with my weekly menu, but find that everyone is okay with the occasional disruption to the routine.

  • I’ve found I have a list of recipes everyone eats and I tend to rotate them……regularly. Another way to know when you’ve become too predictable…..when your dogs can read you. They know the times, read the signs….time to shake the routine up,a bit

  • haha! My husband says that he’s always happy with whatever I cook, but looks so crestfallen when the same meals keep on appearing on the table. I definitely have to make an effort to get out of a routine too.
