These simple tips will take the struggle out of window cleaning and give your home a little extra sparkle!

Window cleaning is one of those jobs that feels never-ending. Just when you think you’ve finally taken care of every window in your home, the number one enemy of clean windows strikes again; grubby little fingers! As you stand there trying to work out what sticky substance is smeared all over your freshly cleaned glass this time, the thought of starting all over again is enough to make you reach for the wine and accept your streaky window existence. Thankfully, all is not lost and we’ve put together some easy tips to keep your windows sparkling and take the stress out of mess!

Pick Your Moment

The weather app is your best friend when it comes to window cleaning. While rain may seem like the worst-case scenario, direct sunlight can also present a problem, especially when using products that may streak. If you’re pressed for time (who isn’t!?) and have to take whatever opportunity you can get (nap-time speed clean anyone?), it’s worth choosing products that are more than just fair-weather friends. The Oates Microfibre Cleaning Kit contains a nifty four-pack of cleaning clothes, with one cloth specially designed for windows and mirrors. The cloth can be used wet or dry, without the need for chemicals, so you can enjoy the sunshine without the streaks!

Do Your Prep

Preparation is a mum’s secret weapon and it’s no different when it comes to window cleaning. Dusting your window ledges, wiping your window frames, and cleaning your screens will avoid other grime joining the craft glue and remnants of yesterday’s lunch. No matter how big the mess, the Oates Microfibre Cleaning Kit is ready for every challenge, removing dust, dirt, and grease with ease. Not to mention it will seriously streamline your cleaning cupboard which is always a bonus. Don’t forget to clean your blinds and curtains too!

Bit By Bit

We’re all guilty of trying to tackle household chores in one go, but the reality is that interruptions and mess are a fact of life. Rather than signing up to a cleaning marathon and trying to get to all the windows in your house between school runs, take it one step at a time and focus on a room or two per day. With the Oates Microfibre Cleaning Kit, the job will only take a matter of minutes and you’ll have time to enjoy the results with a cuppa or maybe even squeeze in a lunch date for a change!

Skip The Newspaper

It’s been a go-to window cleaning staple for decades, but newspaper has been well and truly trumped with the arrival of reusable microfibre cloths. Not only are they more environmentally friendly, but if you choose the Oates Microfibre Cleaning Kit, the easy colour coding makes it easy for anyone to get a sparkly window surface without leaving scratches and lint behind. Even the kids can get involved in the fun (well, we can dream!).

Choose Multi-Tasking Products

If your cleaning cupboard looks more like a supermarket aisle, then you’ve probably been lured into purchasing job-specific products. We still can’t understand what made us think that windows, shower screens, and mirrors needed an entirely different set of sprays, foams, and wipes! The Oates Microfibre Cleaning Kit take the confusion out of window cleaning, achieving superior results with just one strong, super-absorbent cloth. They actually make cleaning enjoyable – they are two words we never thought we’d use together!

It’s a struggle keeping a house clean at the best of times, let alone with little ones running around! We’re not sure about you, but we think fighting the mess just takes all the joy out of everything. Even though grubby little handprints make cleaning a guaranteed part of every day, the Oates Microfibre Cleaning Kit takes the stress out of the process, giving you more time to join in the fun!

  • I do use a glass cleaning cloth and windex for my inside windows. I do usually wash windows first with a wet cloth and then go over it again with a glass cleaning cloth and windex. Doing it this way I find that the windows are perfect. Outside I just just dishwashing detergent and a broom to wash the outside windows and rinse with a hose.
