I’d like to talk about routine and creating an ideal day. I am a big believer in ‘Design the Lifestyle YOU Desire’. But it all starts with planning and visualising WHAT your ideal day would look like.

“Every new day is another chance to change your life” ~Unknown

Take a moment to imagine it: your ideal day. Imagine how you’d feel as you yawn, stretch, and step out of bed. What your first action would be. Your second.

What you’d eat, what you’d do, and how you’d spend your time. The lightness of happiness as you ease from one activity to the next. Your ideal day, start to finish.

What would your ideal day look like?

  • How do you want to feel?
  • What time would you get up? First thing you hear, see, smell?
  • Where do you live?
  • What does your home look like?
  • What would your early morning routine be like?
  • How will you dress this ideal day?
  • What will you be eating?
  • What will you be doing?
  • What would make you happy?

Have a clear vision on what you want. Write down all the things you’d like to do and the experiences you’d like to experience on your ideal day.

Write it all down in the worksheet below, you can download it here. I recommend that you go somewhere quiet, for at least an hour or so. Switch off your phone (or put it on silent), bring a cup of your favourite tea and get dreaming and visualising!

Start living what you envision and put it into practice every single day. Make your dreams a reality by implementing them (taking small steps at a time) in to your daily schedule.

Like Danielle LaPorte says; “Do little bit more of what you really want to do and little bit less of what you don’t want to do – every day! And before you know it – you’ll be doing what you love!

Visualise and manifest your ideal day.

  1. Become clear on what you want
  2. Write down you ideal day and create a vision board
  3. Visualise your ideal day – every day
  4. Believe in your vision
  5. Emotional investment
  6. Activity your personal development; change the way you think, take focused action towards making your ideal day happen
  7. Awareness and gratitude

Picturing your ideal day is a common exercise that I use with my clients. It’s clarification visualisation, a way to hone in on what you’re really after in your professional and personal life.

My ideal day

So, after sharing how you can plan your ideal day and make it happen, I thought I’d share with you what my ideal would be like. Now this would be my ideal ‘normal’ weekday when I’ve got school runs and work to do. If I had one day all to myself, my ideal day would be rather different! I would take myself to the movies (if a good movie is on of course), or plan a movie-date with myself at home, buy a Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake, go shopping, treat myself to delicious comfort food, have a long, hot bath and more.

5AM-5.15AM: Wake-up and stretch
5.15AM-5.30AM: Enjoy a cup of warm lemon water
5.30AM-6AM: Sivananda Yoga and exercise
6AM-6.30AM: Journaling and planning my day
6.30AM-7AM: Morning pampering, getting ready and making bed
7AM-7.15AM: Make nourishing breakfast for my Madam and juice for myself
7.15AM-7.30AM: Have a chat with my baby while enjoying breakfast / juice
7.30AM-8.30AM: School run, morning walk and grocery shopping
8.30AM-9AM: Make and eat yummy breakfast + listen to something inspirational
9AM-11.45: Build my Empire
11.45-12PM: Make nourishing lunch
12PM-1PM; Enjoy my lunch and go for a short afternoon walk / bike ride
1PM-2.15PM: Build my Empire
2.20PM-3.10PM: School run and afternoon walk
3.15PM-4PM: Make dinner
4PM-5PM: Dinner and catch-up with my Madam, clean the kitchen
5PM-5.30PM: Go for a short evening walk sipping a cup of after-dinner tea
5.30PM-6.30PM: Build my Empire
6.30PM-7.30PM: TV or movie with my Madam
7.30PM-7.45PM: Prepare breakfast and lunch, tidy up living room
7.45PM-8.15PM: ‘ME-time'; evening pampering yoga stretches and meditation
8.15PM-9PM: Reading and journaling
9PM: Beauty sleep :)

Now… 70% of the above is what I do on a daily basis, the only things I am not so very good with is the yoga, meditation and exercise plus I am less structured than what I’d ideally like to be.

Tell me how you would spend your perfect day in the comments below.

  • My perfect day would be a day where i didnt have to work of course but unless I win the lotto then im going to have to work so that means a 5.45am get up and it means I need to be in bed by 9.30. I would rather sleep until 6.30 – 7am and be able to stay up until 10.30 – 11pm. I would love to spend my day reading with scented candles burning and rain pouring down outside.

  • Definitely a sleep in, a long spa treatment (facial, pedicure, and massage), a herbal tea, a long lazy lunch with hubby or a friend, reading a book, then eating dinner prepared by somebody else.

  • I spent my last birthday enjoying my ideal day. I took a day off work on annual leave, did the school run, then spent the day in the city shopping, lunching and attending a workout.

  • Wow, great idea I wish I could be so dedicated to make a plan like this.

  • I’m very much the person who does first the things I need to do and then maybe sit and relax. I would love to be able to do some more with the kids or sit behind the sewing machine and create something. However there is most of the time no time for that…

    • So my ideal day is now to find enjoyment in the things I need to do and fold as much kids time between that as possible.

  • Love your concept – however as I’m run off my feet all the time, just to sit down for a couple of hours with a lovely hot cup of something and read a book would be pure bliss.

  • Each morning (or even the night before) I plan the day ahead and write a little schedule. I find this helps me to set out what I need to do each day and also allows me to slot in periods of activity where I can do what I want to do.

  • I like the list of 0 to 10 at the end but I think I would struggle with some of those. It is a nice simple plan though and I am sure I can customise it to my own ideal day plan. Thank you.

  • I dream that all the necessary things I have to do disappearing.
Cleaning up after cooking, doing the washing, helping kids with homework,
grocery shopping (I have to check what is in them even if cooking from scratch).
At least while the washing machine is doing its work I can take the kids outside to play provided the weather is suitable or invent new activities, play games etc. It’s fun reading books with the kids while cooking is in progress, even if the little one sits there and says “again” over and over again. After a few days, time to hide that one and introduce another one.

  • I love the message you are sending us! And how important it is to do more of the stuff we want to do, and less of the stuff we don’t want to do.
I am not able to structure my day too much but there are things I like to do every day. Like walking out with the dog every morning before breakfast, do some exercise every day, read every evening after dinner. Doing those things relaxes me and gives me energy. It’s not always easy to find times for ourselves, but it’s surely worth trying. :-)
