Absolutely insane. I’m not one to say kids should be removed from families, but if living with their biological parents will give them psychological harm and put them in a safety hazard then its time to reconsider their living environment. There is no valid excuse anyone could give to justify these conditions

Oh good Lord. Those poor children. They need to be removed from the parents care and the parents need mental health help.

Hoping these poor children are now having a better life.

IF CYF were already involved with the family why didn’t they visit them and the situation would not have happened. You’d need a face mask, safety glasses or full faced helmet to protect your eyes, a few shovels and a huge skip to put it all in. The house fumigated before and after removing the filth. Floor coverings removed……I hope the children are removed from the house immediately, the adults charged with child neglect. Also the animal authorities remove the dogs. They are probably riddled with fleas, diseases etc. They could have made the kids sick too, and the dogs made sick by the people.

A terrible thing to have found by the owners of this rental property – hopefully the government department in NZ will be able to help these poor children.

Sounds disgusting. Hopefully through Sinead’s concern, the children can get the help they deserve and the parents as well. No matter how poor you are, there is no reason to live in such filth

This is heartbreaking indeed ! Hope commu ity dervices step in. Maybe this is not the place to say this but there is such a need for families who’re willing to take kids temporary or permanent up into their families. We should all consider this I think.

Eek! The smell would have been awful. Some kids unfortunately never know what it is like to be tucked into bed with clean sheets and a good night hug. Early intervention programs during pregnancy have had some success and would be beneficial for both parents and children.

This is disgraceful. Amazing that it went unnoticed for so long. Maybe more rental checks are required.

That is not acceptable for any-one to live in those conditions.

How do these people get away with this stuff for so long?! Where were the neighbours? The dogs, the rubbish and the sewerage in the backyard would have been enough to complain about. Such a sad situation, the parents need to have the children and the dogs removed from their care. The dogs shouldn’t have ad to live like thal, let alone the children

These people should be punished for having made their children live like this, it’s absolutely dreadful, those poor kids

I hope the children are rescued from this lifestyle, they deserve better.

That’s breaks my heart to hear these poor kids lived in such dreadful conditions! No child should have to suffer those conditions, no matter where they live. Hope these children are being cared for & know that they’re safe, warm and healthy.

That is just dreadful. Some people should not be allowed to have kids.

There really is no excuse for this at all. Why did the land lord wait so long if the rent was not being paid? I have had the landlord/manger on my back if the rent was not paid right. Even if it turned up the next day due to the bank. This is the reason some people have trouble trying to rent as people do this and others think oh this is normal why should I take the risk.

This sounds dreadful – for the whole family.
