I don’t know about you but when my babies were born I wondered how they ever managed to fit inside my womb, especially my big 4th baby.

These magical photos by Marry Fermont from Fermont Fotografie capture precious insight into how babies were curled up in the womb.

Marry says “When I documented my first birth, it was the midwife who showed the parents how the baby was positioned in the womb. I loved this photo so much and I noticed it was so nice for the parents to see! You see the baby coming out, but once they’re out it’s so hard to imagine that they were ever inside of you. This gives you a little idea how it fitted. Since I documented my first birth, I often ask the midwife to hold the baby like this.”

These photos are just gorgeous and certainly show us how babies were curled up in the womb. It’s no wonder babies like to be held and snuggled when they are born after being so bundled up.

  • My eldest was a Frank Breech (bottom first). She spent the first 18 months using her feet just as much as her hands to play with. She never wanted to uncurl and stretch out much. It is incredible to look back and recognise how small your bub once was, and how the jigsaw fitted together in that space. Beautiful photos.

  • What a wonderful insight. They do look so comfortable and I’ve often wondered the same thing. How did someone so gorgeous and big stay comfortable for 9 months. Now I know

  • Truly amazing! That is why most babies like to be wrapped up firmly after birth .

  • Had two pretty big bubs [for me] at 8lb then a 6lb one and finally a 4lb – it was just so difficult to handle this little bundle as she was so tiny – I found it so hard to bathe her, hold her and not let her slip through my fingers. But amazingly you’d never know who was big or little now from their sizes.
These photos are just so wonderful – thanks for sharing them.

  • Just beautiful! My youngest baby will be 4 in 2 days time, she was a big 10 pound baby when she was born, yet looking back at pics she looked so tiny. I wish they stayed little for longer :)

  • I remember holding a friend’s baby when he was 4 days old. He seemed so tiny, so light I was frightened I would drop him. His older brother was a bit older than him when I first held him. Now he is 4 years old, so tall and seemingly heavy I can barely pick him up (in an emergency).
