I never knew that white vinegar and apple cider vinegar had so many uses! Here’s 10 ways you can use it around your house.

  1. Unclog a drain: Pour half a cup of baking soda into drain and then a cup of white vinegar, when it stops foaming, wash it down.
  2. Remove sticky residue from a sticker: Spray glue with white vinegar and then wipe.
  3. Eliminate a smelly bin odour: Place a piece of bread soaked in white vinegar in empty bin overnight.
  4. Make an all purpose house cleaner: Fill a spray bottle with 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water an a few drops of dish liquid and use for cleaning.
  5. Eliminate fruit flies from the house: Fill a glass with apple cider vinegar and wrap with cling wrap, poke in a few holes in to attract the flies and trap them.
  6. Quickly eliminate wrinkles from a shirt without ironing: In a spray bottle combine 1 part white vinegar and 3 parts water and spray hanging shirt, wrinkles will disappear as it dries.
  7. Keep cats off furniture: Spray some white vinegar on the couch and the cat will stay away.
  8. Keep flowers fresh for longer: Add some apple cider vinegar to the water and they will stay alive longer.

  • I use half a cup of white vinegar in my washing machine to keep the towels clean. I recently has my washing machine serviced and the technician remarked how clean my machine was when he pulled it apart to replace some brushes. He said normally they are full of washing powder everywhere but mine was clean as a whistle. I put this down to the white vinegar in the wash every week.

  • The heading should state WHITE Vinegar, not just vinegar. There is a few different types of vinegar. Unfortunately it has a strong smell and some people have a reaction to it. There is just a few uses for Apple Cider Vinegar. Considering the cleaning white vinegar is successful on, is it safe to use on coloured shirts and other clothing especially as a lot of the fabrics are synthetic.

  • These are great tips, some of which I use already. The less chemicals the better. I sprinkle carb soda on my shower floor and then spray white vinegar on it, leave for a few minutes then scrub it off. It’s a lot easier to get clean

  • I use white vinegar instead of fabric softener for most of my washing loads. Also use it to clean the inside of my kettle – gets rid of most of the calcium build up if you leave it to soak overnight! (Just make sure you don’t forget it’s in there and make your morning coffee or tea with it!! I tip out the white vinegar and boil the kettle with fresh water and tip it out and then reboil with a second lotnof fresh water)
Also the white vinegar and bi carb soda trick only works for a shallow blockage, if it’s more than half a metre to a metre at most down the drain this won’t work unfortunately.
