Hot on the heels of Woolworths revealing its new Minecraft collectibles, Coles has unveiled a new Harry Potter collection for kids to get their hands on.

It’s not the first time that Coles has teamed up with Harry Potter for a collectibles promotion, but this time it’s Magical Discs that are up for grabs.

Coles Magical Discs Collectibles

From today, budding wizards, witches and Muggles can snap up two-disc packs free with every $30 spent at Coles in store and online. There are 72 discs to collect, plus one rare disc.

And the disc aren’t just to look at – they can be used to make creations, play games and trade.

“We’re thrilled to offer our customers a truly spellbinding experience with our Magical Disc collection. It’s a perfect mix of fun and collectability, bringing the magic of Harry Potter into everyday life and whether you’re a Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw, there’s something for everyone to enjoy,” Coles Chief Customer Officer Amanda McVay said.

As part of the campaign Coles is also running the Hogwarts Fresh Food Challenge, with families able to race to earn points for their chosen house.

  • My son opened one and then wasn’t interested surprisingly. So now I just hand them out to the kids in front of me or behind me, if the parents are willing.

  • We’re collecting in our household and also have friends and family collecting them for us. My son, who is only 3, absolutely loves opening them and is excited to see if we gained new discs or if we have double ups. We are Potter Heads in our household and love these collectibles!

  • Not something I will be collecting. I was disappointed with the Smeg knife promotion. I had enough credits to collect one of the smaller knives, and stock ran out about three weeks before the promotion ended. 🙁

  • I’ve only one child left at primary school age and she doesn’t care a thing about Harry Potter or about any other collectables. I do quite often collect these collectables just for her to share with her class mates which is appreciated by the class mates and my child. Everyone happy and no mess for me in the house 🙂

  • I can’t shop at Coles so it’s not something I have to even think about. The closest Coles store is a 3 hour drive away and I’m certainly not going to have to even worry about this. I don’t know why they can’t go back to doing collections for the adults once in a while.

  • The problem is after the kids have collected them all, driving parents mad trying to get enough cards or whatever it is they are collecting, they never look at them again (or hardly). I think Coles, and Woolies, could come up with better things to collect, even if it ran for a longer time.

  • Again, this is all just a useless gimmick to try to get people to spend more money and buy more of certain products that they probably don’t need in a time when families are struggling to make ends meet. The kids will be interested for 5 minutes until the next big thing…

  • My children are not interested in Harry Potter thankfully we dont need to collect these

  • Thankfully my child is not at an age that this is a conversation. So I’m not influenced by either supermarket and their collectibles as not relevant. It irks me when the promotions aren’t sustainable though, but they seem to have shifted away from plastics. I did like the Woolworths Seedlings some years back!

  • Within my networks, both family and friends, there are many people that are not keen to participate in collectible promotions and do prefer the cookware promotions and other practical items for the household. I am a fan of the cookware promotions for the kitchen and wish they would expand promotions to other practical and useful household products.

  • This is not enough to lure me back to Coles. I’ve been boycotting them since last JUne – they took payment for an online order but then cancelled the order when it was supposed to be delivered. They agreed this happened, but haven’t explained why or why I had to lodge a dispute wiht Paypal – three weeks later – to get my money back.

  • Sigh just another one of these collections. I always say we won’t be able to collect them all, then what happens, I end up collecting them all. Luckily we have a lot of people that help. We help others with double ups as well. Luckily we are not into minecraft.

  • If my grandkids dont want them I have friends with children that will love them

  • My Grandsons have finally just gotten into Harry Potter and would love these but I’m afraid their MInecraft addiction trumps Harry Potter! lol. We’ll have to give these a miss and promise to do all our shopping at Woolies (we usually do anyway). These collections do sometimes sway the shoppers so the promotions work.

  • I’m a Coles shoppers but to be honest my kids would way prefer the Woolworths Minecraft ones at the moment. They like Harry Potter but I could see these discs ending up in the bin so I probably just won’t get them at all. personally prefer the cookware or knives etc.

  • I love Harry Potter but these look lame. I’ll be doing the Minecraft collectables for all my nephews instead

  • I am somewhat surprised that the collectibles with shopping purchases have already started for the new year. We do like the Harry Potter books and movies; however, we will not be actively participating in this promotion. There seems to have been a wealth of collectible promotions over the past few years.

  • My kids are far more interested in the Minecraft promotion than Harry Potter. If they were on at different times they might have more interest in Harry Potter.

  • It is interesting that both Coles and Woollies bring out new collectables at the same time. I honestly think this is a waste as people collect them and then kids play with them once and then never play with them again. I know they are fun to collect but they really are just a waste.
