Hello!

I just woke up today with a brand new resolve! Our apartment has been looking a bit sad and tired for a little while now and it’s time to give it a mini-makeover. Join me in the quest to freshen up your home on a (miniscule) budget.

I wish I had the spare cash to splurge on new furniture and a full paint job. But it’s just not going to happen for now. But there are still some amazing tricks to freshen up your home with minimal effort and cash outlay.

1) Add Some Plants and Flowers

Adding greenery to a drab living space can transform a room instantly.  You don’t have to go overboard on the pot plants – pick carefully to find gorgeous pots and plants that will add life to your home. Displaying a vase or two of fresh cut flowers is also an easy way to freshen up your home. You don’t have to go over-the-top flamboyant with a bouquet – even a single bloom can add a gorgeous pop of colour to your space.

2) Make A Photo Wall

If you’re like me, you’ve got piles of old photos gathering dust in boxes, as well as thousands of more recent pics just sitting on your phone, with nowhere to go. A super-easy way to freshen up your home and inject some personality into your space, is by creating a photo wall. Buy inexpensive photo frames from your local retail store, in the same or different sizes. Have fun trying out shapes, sizes and frame designs and use a combination of old and new photos or even your children’s craft and drawings. Don’t be afraid to get creative here – it’s meant to be stylish but playful.

3) Clean, Clean & Clean

One of the best tips to freshen up your home instantly is to give it an all-round deep clean. When your surfaces are sparkly and the floor is clear, clean and dust-free, your house immediately looks like new. If you don’t already have one,

I would recommend buying the Vileda Easy Wring & Clean Turbo Spin Mop that’s been reviewed by our members. This mop is the #1 Spin Mop in Australia and its superior performance is gleamingly visible after every clean.

The Vileda Easy Wring & Clean Turbo Spin Mop removes over 99% of bacteria with just water so there is no need to use harsh chemicals to get a thorough clean. Plus it has super absorbent 100%-microfibre white strings, combined with red powerfibres for advanced cleaning power and superior dirt pick up.

I have got into the routine of using my Vileda Easy Wring & Clean Turbo Spin Mop at least once a day to give my floors a good clean. It’s amazing the difference it has made in the overall ambiance of my home.

4) Out Of Sight

One of my favourite ways to instantly freshen up your home is to get rid of clutter. If it was up to me, I would embrace the minimalist life and just have a couch, a TV and a dining table on display. Everything else would be magically stored away unseen. But that’s just in my dreams as kids make it almost impossible to fully declutter a space. But I am trying. It’s a good idea to get some stylish storage boxes where you can place your children’s paraphernalia and stack them out of the way. Getting things off the floor and into cupboards, drawers or storage, gives an impression of more space and light.

5) Shift Things Around

I love this easy tip to freshen up your home. All it takes is a bit of muscle and a dash of creativity to move your furniture around. You’ll be blown away by how a simple shift will transform your place completely. Furniture can look completely different in a new position or angle and it doesn’t cost a cent! Bonus!

  • I love the photo wall idea, actually thinking of starting one in our new home

  • I’ve actually purchased crocheted flowers for a vase in my daughter’s bathroom and a beautiful bunch of native flowers which dry out and last almost forever to freshen up our ensuite. When it comes to spring cleaning I’ve used this as a chance to look at piles to sort to sell at local markets, donate or throw – bit make sure we dispose of them properly like batteries and electronics at a local recycling centre. We have a rule – if we haven’t touched it in a year consider it going.
