Hello!

The world has gone mad. Not only are supermarket shelves completely depleted but now Woolworths and Coles are severely restricting home delivery and grocery pick-up services, leaving customers with very little option to re-fill the pantry.

Earlier this week, Coles announced that they would be suspending nationwide home delivery except for the most vulnerable customers so it can focus on keeping stores stocked. In addition, the company is hiring 5,000 new workers, including delivery drivers, to keep up with the demand.

Woolworths also announced that all click and collect services will be suspended and deliveries in parts of Victoria have been stopped.

Woolworths Suspends Home Delivery

However, it now seems that Woolworths delivery services have now been suspended across the country, except for those in need.

In a statement, Woolworths Managing Director, Amanda Bardwell said that during this challenging time “we are giving priority access to our most vulnerable customers including seniors, people with a disability and those in mandatory isolation.”

Only “once these vulnerable customers have been given first access, we are providing online deliveries to our valued customers where we can.”

Expect Cancellations of Orders

The supermarket has warned customers to expect wide-spread cancellation of orders:

“Significant item shortages in store along with unprecedented demand for home delivery and Pick up services have unfortunately resulted in some customer orders being cancelled. We took this decision at the earliest possible point given the high level of items out of stock.”

Woolworths have emphasised that their most vulnerable customers, including seniors, people with a disability and those in mandatory isolation are getting home delivery priority. Those customers who fall into these categories, can apply to receive Priority Assistance by completing a form.

The supermarket has said that they have “temporarily suspended our usual delivery operations out of selected Australian supermarkets until further notice” but will  “look to resume our usual delivery operations out of our supermarkets as soon as possible.”

Pick up services are still not available due to low stock of items.

We tried to make an order last night on the Woolworths website and there are absolutely zero delivery windows available – I wonder how long this will go on for?

What Now?

So what do we do?  If you don’t fall into the ‘needy’ category but still have a family with hungry kids to feed, what do you do?

How are you keeping food on the table with all these restrictions and suspension of home delivery and pick up services?

  • We’ve been ordering a lot of Menulog lately. We don’t want to use what we have in our freezer in case we can’t anything if there is a lockdown.

  • They haven’t made this any easier for us mums with kids who rely on home delivery ????

  • If some people were not so downright greedy, there would be plenty of supplies for everyone. By the time I get to a supermarket, everything is gone, and, because I haven’t been buying more than I need, my supplies are ruining low now ….

  • I can imagine how difficult this is for people who rely on home delivery. Hopefully things will change though.
This morning I went to my local Coles and it was so nice to see full shelves again, except some products like eggs for example or minced beef.
It’s difficult but we can do it!
    Keep safe everyone!

  • I can understand why they’re doing it but it doesn’t make it any easier for those people who depend upon it.

  • It’s made it extremely difficult not being able to have delivery. My family only had the one car & my partner needs it for work. He has days where he starts extremely early & finishes late. So by the time I can get to the shops, majority of the goods are gone. It would be ok if people stopped bulk buying & were considerate to others. I really hope all the craziness settles down soon.

  • I think they should leave the option open and still restrict goods. It is easier for people not to go out and to have them delivered. No risk of spreading virus or contracting it.

  • this will be hard if we have a lock down

  • I hope everything will back to normal soon.

  • A friend of mine said they should be doing the complete opposite. Closing supermarkets and only doing click and collect or deliveries. That way it limits what you can buy and stops people from hoarding, as they can track what is being purchased and where it is going. Yes any house can order from both Coles and Woolworths but if they limit it to one delivery/click and collect per household per week it should get us through this chaos!

  • It’s hard but due to everyone’s panic buying and greed, they left no choice but for this to happen

  • This is so hard. I have a disability, and although I’m a Coles customer, they’ve provided no mechanism to apply for home delivery (which I’ve been using for years because of my disability).

    • Try Woolworths delivery as they have a special link for those with disabilities.
