Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have shared that they’re keenly awaiting the day they can get their kids can receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, the couple opened up about wanting to protect their kids from COVID-19, and also protecting their peers. “Who wants to be the parents that give their kid COVID and then gets their kid’s school shut down?” Ashton Kutcher shared.

While vaccines are available for children over 12 at the moment, the couple’s 4-year-old son, Dimitri Portwood, and 6-year-old daughter, Wyatt Isabelle are still too young to receive any of the available vaccines. Ashton and Mila have revealed they were both vaccinated back in April.

They spoke to PEOPLE last Tuesday at an event in Los Angeles, “That’s what we were talking about. Yeah, it is [weird], because every day you’re like, ‘I hear it’s going to be approved by X date,’ and then it gets pushed and it gets pushed, and you hope that it’s getting pushed for the right reasons and not just because someone wants to put their name on it,” Mila said.

Kutcher added, “And who wants to be the parents that give their kid COVID and then gets their kid’s school shut down and keeps kids from being educated because they didn’t get vaccinated because the kid couldn’t get vaccinated.”

“Even if you are vaccinated you still can get COVID and give it to your kid, and they can still get very sick and get the entire school shut down,” he shared, “Who wants to be that person? Nobody.”

The family experienced lockdown together, like many families around the world. Kutcher shared how they got through the long days, “We actually kind of tried to just celebrate the fact that our kids are young and they still want to hang out with us and we got to be with them all day,” he says. “I think the whole thing was scary, but we talked about it a lot. Our kids are still pretty young and our son is going to be 5 and he’s probably known more of life in a mask than not in a mask. So for him and our daughter as well, it’s just a lesson in resilience.”

Are you waiting for the vaccine for your younger kids too?

  • I’d love for a safe vaccine for kids to come out. Right now They are the vulnerable ones.

  • I’m all for people making their own choices when it comes to their bodies and what they put in it. This includes the vax and every other thing. But to push your opinions onto others and not be offered a choice on whether i consent or not goes too far. Please respect all decisions whether we choose to give it to our kids or not.

  • I just wish people would educate themselves through reputable sources. The risk of death and serious lifelong illness from covid is very real, now. It scares me to think that there are so many children out there who are not yet able to receive a vaccine and are at risk of infection, whilst others who could be protecting them are choosing not to. My first daughter was born at 31 weeks. If she was to have been exposed to covid in those early years, it would have killed her. Good on Ashto & Milla for using their profile to educate others with facts and science. COVID-19 vaccines have been developed without compromising quality, safety and effectiveness.

Taken from the Dept. of Health – Australian Government

“It may appear they have been developed very quickly, but researchers around the world have been working hard to develop COVID-19 vaccines from the earliest stages of the pandemic.

They have been able to speed up development of vaccines thanks to the collaboration between them, scientists, manufacturers and distributors.

The development and implementation planning phases have been run side-by side, instead of one after the other. This has been made possible because of unprecedented global funding.

In addition, research into how to respond to a pandemic has been occurring long before COVID-19.

This research looks at data from previous coronaviruses such as SARS in 2002 and MERS in 2012, giving researchers a head start when it comes to building the COVID-19 vaccines.

In Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration, or the TGA, has been rigorously assessing the potential COVID-19 vaccines for safety, quality and effectiveness. They will continue to do this with all vaccines before they will be approved and made available to Australians.

Once approved, each batch must also be checked to make sure it meets the same quality standards.”

  • I think everyone needs to do what they feel is right for their family. Wether they want the shot or not. It’s dividing alot of us and it’s sad. But each to their own and no peer pressure please

  • I always worry about effects of vaccines that are new on my kids.
Hopefully it will be one that is safe and has no long term effects.

  • As we venture out of lock down it is kids under 12 and those who are unable to get vaccinated I worry most about. While my husband and I have some protection from getting really sick because we are vaccinated we can still pass it on to our young kids. When we have the ability to choose vaccination for our kids we will.

  • If it means my grandkids will all be protected bring it on! When other countries have done the testing & have it approved we shouldn’t wait to have our children safe!
