The baby boy was delivered on board a JetBlue Airways flight from Puerto Rico to Florida.

A baby boy delivered on a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Fort Lauderdale, Florida is expected to have the plane renamed after him, subject to his mother’s approval. Assisted by the crew and onboard medical professionals, mother and baby were met by emergency services when they arrived in the US, with the baby becoming the airline’s youngest ever passenger.

Unexpected Diversion

The airline applauded its staff for their professionalism and quick thinking. “We’d like to thank the crew and medical professionals on board for their quick action under pressure, and wish the new mother and son all the best,” a JetBlue spokesperson said. While it’s rumoured that babies born in the air are gifted free travel for life by the relevant airline, this is extremely unlikely (but a nice idea nonetheless!), however JetBlue did hint at more exciting things to come. “With mom’s okay, we would like to rename ‘Born To Be Blue’ after our newest baby blue and our youngest customer ever. More baby shower gifts to come!” the airline tweeted.

The baby boy’s name hasn’t been released as yet, but what an incredible birthday present from the airline and what an amazing birth story this family will be able to tell!

  • Staff did amazingly well and it nice of the airline to be so generous. I just hope women don’t see this and think it’s a good idea to have a baby born on a plane to get a bunch of gifts from the airline (you know there’d be a few out there thinking this). Glad mum and Bub are doing well! Congratulations on a safe arrival

  • Incredible. Was the baby born earlier then? Because there is a limit to when you are allowed to fly while pregnant.
I love the idea of naming the plane after the baby. :-)

  • All my births are memorable, I have beautiful children to remind me of their births. But no unusual ones. I can’t see if this baby was premature…..I thought mums were recommended to not fly after a certain time in their pregnancy???
