Big Brother is back….and Channel 7 has promised that it’s going to be action-packed with new twists, turns and sensational plots. But really, do we have time in our lives for Big Brother?

Ok, I’ll admit it. I was a BIG Big Brother fan in the very beginning. I was practically a teenager myself when the show first went to air 20 years ago and this was my first tantalising taste of reality TV. I was secretly addicted to all the salacious covert sex and back-stabbing shenanigans.

But that was in a carefree life before I had my own ‘Big Brother’ house full of toddlers and fiesty pre-teens, zapping all my energy and creating enough in-home drama to fill an entire season of real-life TV.

Big Brother Is BACK….With A Few BIG Changes

After a break of six years from the telly, Big Brother is back! And there are promises of significant changes to the format, which, let’s admit it, was just getting plain old boring.

In surprise news, Channel 7 has revealed there will be both an eviction and a challenge every single episode.

“Big Brother is changing the rules. Every day he will set a new challenge and every episode will end with an eviction,” seven announced.

Instead of the public voting for housemates like in previous seasons, the new-look Big Brother will also see only housemates nominating and evicting each other.

Hmm….We’re Not Sure About This

Many fans were a bit dubious as to how this would work, saying this will be the shortest season of Big Brother in the history of the show.

“Does that mean the show will only last 20 days with 20 housemates?” questioned a Big Brother fan on Twitter.

One fan on the Big Brother facebook page explained the changes:

“To anyone that doesn’t know, this is basically the format of US Big Brother, they do challenges, make alliances and vote each other out… then we vote the winner! Pretty much like Survivor! ”

Who Are They?

There seems to be a motley crew of 20 contestants, ranging from 19 to 62, battling out for the $250,000 prize money.

So far we’ve ‘met’ Angela, a 37-year-old mum of two from Perth, 21-year-old Kieran from Adelaide, who’s claim to fame is that he’s a really bad driver, former footy star Daniel, 80’s aerobics icon Marissa, former gymnast Sophie, tradie Chad, teacher Zoe and 30 year old electrician Matt from Broken Hill in NSW. Apparently Matt is engaged so I’m curious to see how this will play out in the show.

Housemates will live in a custom-built house at North Head, Manly.

The place is fitted with cameras and microphones recording every inch of the house and their every move, 24 hours a day.

Sonia Kruger will be returning as host of the revamped – but all too familiar – Big Brother.

What To Expect

Filming finished in April with two finalists remaining. The finale will be the only live episode with a public vote, which will take place once all of the pre-recorded episodes have aired.

The show will be broadcast three nights a week on Channel Seven from early June.

I think despite my major reservations, morbid curiosity will probably get the better of me and I will tune to watch at the least the first episode. Not sure what will happen after that though.
