Fitness blogger, Ashy Bines, is facing backlash for using a suicide awareness hashtag to defend herself against critics.
Screengrabs of a Facebook thread appear to show the Gold Coast personal trainer responding with #doitfordolly to two commenters who questioned her range of ‘clean treat’ products.
The hashtag is intended to draw attention to youth suicide and mental health issues including depression.
The screenshots, shared by Yahoo7 News, were posted by an Instagram page dedicated to sharing customer complaints against the controversial fitness star.
“These people simply asked a question about her new clean tweets and she is using a sweet little girl named Dolly who tragically took her own life to respond,” the ‘Ashy Bines Company Truths’ page admins write.
Followers of the page condemned Bines for ‘misusing’ the hashtag and linking criticism of her business to the cruel and prolonged cyber bullying that led to Everett’s suicide.
Bines’ fitness programs and products include activewear, diet plans, supplements and haircare items.
Do you think this is a total misuse of an important hashtag and cause?
