Your weekly dose of health and well-being learnings to lead a happy and healthy life.

This week discusses Children’s Immune Systems and why children often seem to get so sick when they first start daycare or pre-school. Sharing with you some information about how your child’s immunity grows stronger and why getting sick is actually a sign that your child’s immune system is working well.

  • Last year when my daughter was at child care she was sick very often that I had to take time off work. This year she is with my mum and rarely sick. I know it build her immune system but sometimes you want them to be well with no high temps, and fevers. I hated it when there would be a sign on the door saying we have two cases of lice, 1 case of hand foot and mouth etc.

  • My son is 11 and every 3rd week he has a cold – I just keep him fed with fruit and veg and make sure he’s dressed appropriately for outside occasions.

We get sick it’s part of life – eat well, plenty of sleep and fluids and font be paranoid about germs

  • What an informative article. My son has been going to daycare 1 – 2 days a week since he was 6 months old, (he is now almost 3yo) and has very rarely been sick. My daughter (7.5mo) starts daycare this week ( 1 day per week) and I am worried how this will affect her immune system, especially as she is starting during the cold and flu season.

  • Very interesting. It comforting to know a little illness is the sign of a functioning immune system. Puts you at ease when they seem to get every bug and cough at times!

  • Thanks for this info. My little ones don’t go to daycare and I can count on one hand the number of times each of them had been sick. My oldest starts school next year so it will probably begin for me then.

  • My 16 month old keeps catching things from daycare (he’s only been going for 4 months). But hopefully his immune system will pick up soon and he should be strong when he starts school 🙂

  • Hi thanks for your video. My 12 month old has had roseola (or variations thereof) 4 times in 8 weeks. I’ve started him on a probiotic after the last sickness 2 weeks ago and so far so good.
