Finding a Christmas gift for a toddler or baby can be challenging to say the least. Whether it’s your child who already has everything they could ever want or need, or someone else’s child and you don’t have any of your own, it can be tough figuring out what to get for Christmas. And of course, you can’t get them a gift card or (gasp!) nothing!

To help you out, Metro Baby has come up with a collection of suitable gifts for all babies and toddlers, from newborn to three years. Here are some ideas to start you on your shopping journey.

Newborn

Buying gifts for newborn babies aged up to six months, can be a challenge. They can’t do a lot in those first few months, so there’s no point in getting them puzzles or expensive toys. But the closer they get to six months, the more they are finding their eyesight and hands. The best gift ideas for babies of this age are practical. For the first three months, you’re probably going to be better getting gifts that help mum and dad out, as well as the baby. This could be something like a bouncer, swaddle, pacifier clips or an infant lounger. As they get older, you might instead go for products that will help them with teething, such as a rainbow teether. Or perhaps a fidget ball to practice their hand coordination. Or even a light that illuminates the nursery in the night, saving you from turning on bright lights and waking them up.

6-12 Months

For babies 6-12 months, it’s all about food and learning. You could try a fresh food teething feeder, which is great for giving baby those first solids, feeding spoons or sets, or even sippy cups are also a great choice. If they’re sitting on their own, you could get them some stacking cups to keep them busy, or you might choose a small swimming pool, or a water mat – both of which are great for summer fun!

1-2 Years

Ages 1-2 years are becoming more aware of the world around them. They’re learning how to stand up and play, which makes an adjustable activity table a great choice for a gift, and they’re becoming more aware of how toys and lights might comfort them, so a Miffy teddy or lamp could be the ideal option. There are also plenty of choices for dining, including mini cups and straws, utensil sets and placemats combined with plates that you can put their delicious first foods onto.

2-3 Years

For toddlers aged 2-3 years, this is where it gets exciting. They’re generally walking around, homing in on those gross motor skills and having a great time getting creative (and messy). Puzzles are always fun at this age, or you can get a beach set to keep them occupied when you hit the summer sand. A walker with blocks is a great way to learn how to walk and get used to the alphabet and counting at the same time, a xylophone is a great way to introduce the toddler to music, while a Zoo ride-on is a great introduction to the scooter scene.

This season, you’ll find something for every baby and toddler, to get their curiosity piqued and give them hours of entertainment with a little help from their imaginations.
