10 lucky winners will receive a copy of The Drop-Off by Fiona Harris & Mike McLeish!

The Drop-Off is a hilarious look at the unlikely friendship between three parents who gossip, laugh, drink coffee and would rather keep to themselves at school drop off. A cross between Kitty Flanagan and Liane Moriarty, this is a novel that will make you laugh and cry while reminding us all of the redemptive power of friendship, community, forgiveness… and good coffee!

And it all begins at The Drop-Off.

Written by husband and wife team, Mike McLeish and Fiona Harris, The Drop-off is based on the award-winning, critically acclaimed web series of the same name.

  • At drop off my daughter who was wearing a dress let me know she didn’t put her underwear on absolute shock crossed my face and we then had to quickly leave to find her some underwear. She now has some packed in her bag.

  • When my Mum dropped me off on a pull free day and the school had to ring her back to pick me up ????‍♀️

  • my daughter wandered off and got lost on the first day of school…. I don’t think i will ever forget that horror!

  • My dad was in such a rush that he wasn’t paying attention and my sister was only half out of the car. He ended up running over her foot and having to take her to the hospital. All the other parents watched on!

  • My son has always been a cljnger when it comes to drop offs, tears, tantrums and a whole lot of mum guilt! But now he just walks in, gives me a big and says bye! There is nothing that makes me happier!

  • Last year we gulped and decided to change schools. It was especially hard for my 7 yo middle son. He never wanted to get out the car. So I invented the big bugs bunny hug, and then he had to race me to his class whilst I drove waving all the way.

  • My worst memory of school drop off is realising I was the only parent who forgot to send a plate of food with my kindergarten child for the class party. She was so upset with me she shouted at me in front of all the parents .

  • That day my daughter’s Kindy teacher told me my daughter had pulled out a $20 note at the canteen….. (Query where that money has come from?! ) – it was hers and I had no idea she’d taken it to school to buy an ice block (less than $1)

  • I once dropped off in my pjs. In the car A friend looked in to chat and caught me. She laughed and said her pjs were under the tracksuit and showed me immediately. We both laughed and vouched to wear jicer ones for drop off in the futire.

  • It is both my best and worst memory of a school drop-off…the day my son started to want to be dropped off outside the school to walk in solo. I was ever so proud of his independence but oh my heart…just like that, where did my little boy go?

  • My kids were excited to tell everyone gathered for pick up about the grasshopper they were bringing for news, except he died the day before news day. Embarrassing to have to announce at the next drop off that we couldn’t even keep a grasshopper alive!

  • Walking my daughter into school carrying my then baby boy with baby spew all down my cardigan and having no idea!! So embarrassing when I realised.

  • School drop offs memories always were always a treasure treat catching up with mum friends and family stories and arranging play dates who could ask for more.

  • Had given my son $5 for the mother’s day stall and told him not to buy me a mug. At pick up time, I saw him put something in the bin… found out after he had bought me a mug and then remembered and had chucked it in the bin!

  • As kids we would fight over sitting in the front seat (which can’t happen now with car seat rules) so as much as it was a bad thing at the time, it’s a fond memory I have with my brother now xx

  • I made such good friends at school drop off – my kids are in their mid 20’s now and I am still close friends with many of the mums from the school yard – even though our kids no longer get together we still do!

  • It was my first day of high school. Mum dropped me off. It was all gonna be fine. As I was crossing the car park, a car approached. And ran me over. It was my teacher. It was an accident. And I survived – only a broken hip!

  • My best and worst memory are the same, I was walking across the crossing and a car almost hit me, but miss thanks to my Mother pulling me back and saving my life. Both a scary and happy moment.

  • My worst memory was when I was walking my daughter into school, at the same time trying to zip up her bag, when I stepped into a nice fresh horse poo. Gotta love country schools!

  • I never had a school drop off. I walked 2km to primary school and 2km home. On my first day of grade 1, (no kindy or preschool), I had to walk with my 8 year old sister. I rode a push bike, made out of bits from the local dump, 2.5km rain, hail or shine. I don’t regret a thing, as it made me strive for and achieve a far better life for my family, and theirs.
