What Mums Are Saying

@BowtifulChescaDoll (Mum to Chesca, 2 and Gabby, 6): “It’s great educational material for bilingual children and even parents to learn and recall some of the basic words, phrases and songs in Chinese (Mandarin).  I also highly recommend this for older children who will learn a lot of basic Mandarin words from this book.

“Chesca listened to me as she touched the correct pictures of each corresponding word I asked for in English.  When she switched to Chinese mode, I asked her to touch each picture again and repeat what the book said in Chinese. She did so well in listening to my instructions.  I love how this book keeps her engaged in learning both languages while being attentive!”

@Brayjoe828 (Mum to 4 children): “Dion had so much fun exploring 100 plus vocabulary words in English and Chinese.  I love how with the slide of a button your child can immerse in bilingual play.  This will help them build a strong and solid literacy foundation.”

bilingualkidspot.com: “Kids can either be immersed in bilingual play, or for families with a Chinese and an English-speaking parent, each parent can use the book in their native language.  With Chinese being one of the most spoken languages in the world, it is fast becoming a popular language to learn for English speakers.

“Learning a second language while young is so much easier than learning as an adult, when children are able to distinguish better between sounds and therefore, they are able to imitate and pronounce them more easily.”

For toddlers aged 12 months and over, the 100 Words Book – English-Chinese with Learning Activity Guide is available from Big W.

  • I had a pen pal from France growing up to help learn the language and after seeing my child watch Dora and enjoy learning a new language I thought how wonderful it would be if he could learn another language and then have a pen pal of his own

  • Growing up being bilingual came easy for me as mum always spoke to me in mandarin. But now i’m actually struggling to teach our kids mandarin so that they could use it and speak to their grandparents and have a special bond between themselves.

  • A 2nd language would help my kids communicate better with their grandparents and learn from their knowledge and stories

  • Having been a French / German teacher, I recognise the immense value of being multi-lingual. The earlier one begins, the better the results. English literacy & an understanding & appreciation of different cultures are added benefits. My grandchildren already know some French & Italian. Chinese would be a welcome addition.

  • .

  • It is easier to learn a second language when you are younger. I always wanted to but never got the chance, so I would love my kids to learn.

  • Because we will be possibly moving to Switzerland.

  • Because it can become very beneficial for when they are older & want to travel

  • I think that this is incredibly important to share with our children to be culturally diverse and I would love for my own child to share in this. Australia prides itself being multicultural. I myself do not know a second language but want this for my own childs learning. I truly believe learning starts from birth

  • I learnt Italian and German as a kid and Indonesian, Tok Pisin and Chinese as an adult. It’s so rewarding and fun and opens many doors! I have started teaching my 3.5 year old Chinese and he loves saying Ni Hao and Xie Xie to his Chinese friend at childcare!

  • It is a great way to get to know a culture, and a great asset to be able to speak with people from different country(s)

  • I think its a great asset if they want to travel aboard in the future.

  • I think that all children should explore other languages because it teaches them to open their mind and they will want to learn about others culture.

  • My kids are a quarter chinese (i’m half chinese) but i never had the chance to learn chinese.

  • Exploring a second language is important because I would like my child to know from an early age that English isn’t the only spoken language in Australia and to break a barrier between languages.

  • I think it is good to be able to speak another language as it helps understanding different culture. Also, it will be beneficial in the future.

  • Oh my ! That would be so cool to see my baby learning and speaking another language. It could also arouse an interest in being bilingual. He could travel the world with confidence .

  • I think it will be great for a child’s vocabulary and learning and be more versatile in such a. Stifled world. It will be a great way to teach new cultures and traditions and gain a better perspective on cultures.

  • It would be a great way for my children to connect and be closer to their Chinese grandparents- learning their native language, especially whilst they are young. What a great way to bond!

  • Learning a second language would be an amazing learning opportunity. Research also suggests that it is easier to do this from a young age .
