What Mums Are Saying

@BowtifulChescaDoll (Mum to Chesca, 2 and Gabby, 6): “It’s great educational material for bilingual children and even parents to learn and recall some of the basic words, phrases and songs in Chinese (Mandarin).  I also highly recommend this for older children who will learn a lot of basic Mandarin words from this book.

“Chesca listened to me as she touched the correct pictures of each corresponding word I asked for in English.  When she switched to Chinese mode, I asked her to touch each picture again and repeat what the book said in Chinese. She did so well in listening to my instructions.  I love how this book keeps her engaged in learning both languages while being attentive!”

@Brayjoe828 (Mum to 4 children): “Dion had so much fun exploring 100 plus vocabulary words in English and Chinese.  I love how with the slide of a button your child can immerse in bilingual play.  This will help them build a strong and solid literacy foundation.”

bilingualkidspot.com: “Kids can either be immersed in bilingual play, or for families with a Chinese and an English-speaking parent, each parent can use the book in their native language.  With Chinese being one of the most spoken languages in the world, it is fast becoming a popular language to learn for English speakers.

“Learning a second language while young is so much easier than learning as an adult, when children are able to distinguish better between sounds and therefore, they are able to imitate and pronounce them more easily.”

For toddlers aged 12 months and over, the 100 Words Book – English-Chinese with Learning Activity Guide is available from Big W.

  • It’s great to be multilingual but for us it’s a bit of a shame considering my husband is Eurasion yet he, myself & children only speak english. All the relatives are multilingual & at get together sometimes we are left out of conversations in chinese. Unintentionally, but it does happen.

  • At age 2.5 my daughter is showing an advance development on her social skills. Making her learn another language would possibly be interesting for her as she likes to chat and tell stories. In the long run, being able to speak another language is a skill she can use for life.

  • They younger they are the quicker they pick it up.

  • Would help them through life

  • I want to be able to give my child all the advantages in life so she is able to one day choose something that makes her happy. Learning is soo important to young minds it paves the path to their future.

  • My little boy mentioned that his friend in the same class can’t speak english and he wants to learn Mandarin so he can communicate with him. Whilst english is our first language, I would love for him to learn a second language. The opportunities are endless with the demand for bilingual requirements, translators. The best part of it is so he can surprise his grandparents with what he’s learned!

  • As we only speak English at home an way and means to explore a second language for my boys would be fantastic. Having language skills in a second language I feel is an essential in today’s workforce.

  • Learning cultural differences.. Two boys learning Chinese at school in first years -Prep and Year 1. Older boy struggling with Chinese. LEAPFROG English/Chinese perfect learning in a fun way.

  • Having exposure to a second language at a young age helps build interest in other cultures and understanding how differences around the world can be overcome by communication

  • My miss 6 is naturally interested in learning. Her prep teacher has not met anyone like her. She is borrowing books from grade 1 and when they get movie time she reads instead. I think she would genuinely be interested to learn another language. Looks like a fun, interactive way.

  • It’s such valuable piece of knowledge to have, a second language. It can open all kinds of other doors for when you grow older in terms of your work and how you can communicate with others.

  • I always wanted to be bilingual, I remember when I was younger listening to friends who could easily go from English to Spanish or mandarin back to English ect and I was always astounded and awed. I took a few different languages in school when I was older but it never came natural to me so I would love my children to learn young and thrive in languages

  • I’ve heard that learning a second language opens up brain pathways which helps with kids learning and focus. We could all use some of that

  • All of the research shows the amazing benefits of being bilingual in such a multicultural world. I want her to have the best opportunities on offer!

  • Brain stimulation for them and me, and communication makes the world a smaller, less ‘fearful of foreign’ place.

  • With our nation becoming more and more culturally diverse I think it can’t hurt for us to learn something about another culture/language, it would help bridge the gap for those coming to smaller country towns
(My son has a Chinese best friend and it is so hard for us to understand him sometimes)

  • It would be for my neighbours child, as exploring other languages is amazing for children

  • I want my child to explore a second language and have that up his sleeve for school. I think this would really help as thats one thing he could confidently pass come exam times.

  • It’s often good if a child can carry on board another language.

  • As the world becomes smaller as a result of digital and other technologies, that allow us to travel globally physically or metaphorically, having the ability to communicate becomes vital. I would love my children to speak a second language fluently to give a more authentic experience in their older years
