    • 3 years ago my family went and stayed in my husband’s grandparents holiday house in Lakes Entrance. It was the most amazing holiday. We didnt spend much money because everything we did was much better than spending money on expensive activities. We went to the beach, if it rained it didnt matter because we collected shells instead. We bought icecream and went for walks along the sidewalk talking to our kids about all the boats. We played cricket with people we didnt even know but the kids loved it. It was great to get back to basics seeing so many kids these days rely on their phones and have no idea how to just be kids. Our kids jumped off the jetty, played in the park despite the fact that two of the kids are teenagers. None of us got sick (which normally happened when we tried to have a holiday) and we went back the following year.

    • Camping at the beach, sand in the tent, catching tiny crabs in a bright red bucket. A lime green, blow up boogie board, a pink fishing rod that never once caught a fish but i loved it anyway. The long drive in the car with the windows down with no airconditioning. Digging trenches around your sand castle and decorating it with shells. Getting a new bathing suit and getting so excited to wear it for the first time. Finding a calm inlet from the ocean and playing in it for hours. Playing cards and reading by camp light and falling asleep exhausted from it all. Meeting new friends and running, riding and playing all over the camp ground with them, promising to be pen pals after you go home and running into them again next year picking upwhere you left off. Getting bowled over by waves coming up for air in time to get bowled over again. Sand in yournew bathers, ice cream melting down your hands, zinc cream on your nose. Wishing your holiday would last forever as you reluctantly pack up the car for that long drive home with the bucket of shells at your sandy feet!

    • As a child my family couldn’t afford family holidays but I had a wonderful week away in Venus Bay with my best friends family :)

    • Loved going with the family to the grampians camping it was beautiful

    • when I was young we used go camping with other families from the RAAF that dad worked with. We would set up a big canvas tent that would fit everyone in with camp stretches and sleeping bags. toast snags on sticks, marshmallows etc. we played cards and spotlight and told ghost stories and went fishing. we did it for at least 10 years til everyone basically grew up and moved away. It was time when kids were kids and Australian way of life meant sun, beach and laid back fun.

    • We holidayed at the Gold Coast once a year. My parent ran their own business and didn’t have much time to do things with us. But once a year, they would pack the car up Mum, Dad and all four kids and we would go on holidays.
Theme parks, PuttPutt, Sizzlers and Daily trips to the beach. It was the most wonderful thing and we would look forward to it all year. I am so fortunate for this special time and the memories made.

    • We didn’t holiday as a family as my dad owned his own business and it just wasn’t possible. I would love to give my kids memories I don’t have.

    • My parents use to own a caravan at a park we use to go there every holidays I loved it
Going to the beach riding my bike and meeting new kids
I even meet my first love when I was 16

    • My favourite child holiday would be when i was about 10. We went camping my older brother had been driving me nuts all day. We had set up camp, but it sta rted to rain hard. My brother tent started to leak, i thought it was funny as. But not when he come into my tent all wet. In the end it rained that bad we all had to bolt to the car. Were we stayed up all night playing cards, telling ghost storys and eating the seceret stash of junk food. Its one of my favourite memorys :-)

    • Camping with family and friends, we went out to the river and learnt how to ski, parasailed, fished and explored and sat around the camp fire at night while people played guitar and everyone sang, it was wonderful. Must have been at least 30 years ago and I remember it like yesterday, wonderful people, great food and lots of laughs. We have started camping with our family friends and our kids now and I can only hope I can give them some of the same special memories :)

    • We love home and away and we also love to be home and away!

    • When I was about 11 my parents packed us into the car and we drove south for two days solid. My brother & I almost went stir crazy with all the games of I Spy (& Dad’s obsession with Fleetwood Mac)! But finally we arrived at our destination – the SNOW! – and all was forgotten in the excitement of our first snowball fight and making a snowman. It was harder than we thought!
Coming from Queensland, it was a huge deal to see snow and learn to ski. But an amazing holiday that I can’t wait to recreate with my own kids in a few years,

    • I have been lucky to have gone many holidays with my parents but the stand out holiday is on my first plane trip with my parents and sister to Bali when I was 12 years old. I remember being shocked at the extremely hot temperature when getting off the plane and the smell of insence. My younger sister getting Bali belly ..I will remember that forever (but we won’t go there) and also meeting people from Sydney who we still keep in touch with all these years later who had been to Bali before and showed us the best and cheapest places to eat. Great memories.

    • Dad used to have lots of work conferences and we used to stay at one hotel a lot. The adults used to go to their night time function and my brother and sister and i used to get room service dinner. Then my brother and i used to get towels and ‘dust’ the hotel for them. LOL we were strange kids, we’d do the whole hotel’s hand rails. We had lots of great holidays..but for some reason I just loved it here..it always felt comfortable. We loved conference time.

    • My favourite childhood holiday memory is when I stayed at the Gemini Resort. I was 12 and it was the first time I had stayed in a hotel (parents enjoyed and still enjoy camping). It was like the height of luxury for 12 year old me, the view for the balcony was breathtaking. Definately started my love affair with holidays at the coast.

    • At the age of 6 my mum ,dad, 4 brothers and sister all got on a plane a Heathrow airport to travel to Australia for what i thought was our first overseas holiday. We were all so excited. After what seemed like a lifetime the plane landed in Perth. A taxi was waiting to take us to our accommodation. We saw so many things we had not seen before. After a couple weeks my brother asked mum when will we leave this wonderful place. Mum said to us this is not a holiday place this is now your new home country. I am a adult now with young children of my own and i always think back to my first overseas holiday to this place i now call home.

    • I have had 4 lots of plaster casts on my ankle, when they first plastered me up, my leg was still broken, and there has been trouble with the healing process ever since, now I’ve finally had it fused, I reckon if anyone needs a holiday, its me, but more than me, is Darren who has had to take care of me through this nightmare!!! please, we could do with a holiday (sorry I can’t say break, had enough of those , thanks!!)

    • I remember going camping with my family at a place called Orere Point in Auckland, New Zealand. It was awesome. It had two water holes with swing ropes. We used to go down the river out to the beach on our boogie boards. The shop made the best ice creams. We watched outdoor movies in our sleeping bags. Would love to start the same tradition with my kids when we find a great spot

    • Going to Melbourne at 14 years old was a fantastic experience from going in a plane for the first time ever and experiencing being in another state. Loved it!

    • Definately spending time at the beach with all my family. Loved the memories we made and the fact it was so relaxing.
