Who wants a golden ticket to see the spectacular new musical Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, coming to Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne from 9 August.

We’re giving away the most sought-after tickets in the country – a chance for you and your family to enjoy this delicious show on Friday 9 August, 7:30pm at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne. We’ve got two family passes (each consisting of four tickets) to give away.

The lucky winner will get to experience the wonders of Wonka like never before – get ready for the Oompa-Loompas, incredible inventions, the great glass elevator and more, more, more at this everlasting showstopper!

Willy Wonka, the most amazing, fantastic, extraordinary chocolate maker the world has ever seen, is played by Paul Slade Smith, who was part of the original Broadway cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Five boys will share the role of Charlie Bucket in this delicious tale: Benjamin Belsey (10 years of age, from Point Cook), Elijah Slavinskis (10, Ashburton), Edgar Stirling (10, St Kilda), Lenny Thomas (12, Bonbeach) and Lachlan Young (13, Camberwell).

Ninety and a half-year-old Grandpa Joe, an enthusiastic storyteller and eternal optimist, is played by Australian show business royalty Tony Sheldon, who is best known for playing the role of Bernadette in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Jake Fehily and Octavia Barron Martin play Augustus Gloop and Mrs Gloop, Karina Russell and Stephen Anderson are Veruca Salt and Mr Salt, Monette McKay (until February) and Jayme-Lee Hanekom (from March) play Violet Beauregard with Madison McKoy as Mr Beauregard, and Harrison Riley and Jayde Westaby are Mike Teavee and his mother Mrs Teavee.

Step inside a world of pure imagination. Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the perfect recipe for a delectable treat: songs from the original film including “Pure Imagination”, “The Candy Man” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket”, alongside a toe-tapping and ear-tickling new score from the songwriters of Hairspray.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is perhaps Roald Dahl’s best-known story and has proved to be one of the most enduring children’s books of all time. The story of Charlie Bucket, the five Golden Tickets, the Oompa-Loompas and the amazing Willy Wonka has become firmly embedded in our culture since it was first published in 1964.

  • Willy Wonka is so SWEET,
his CHOCOLATE factory looks like a TREAT,
flowing rivers of CHOCOLATE, Oompa Loompas too,
he will make my SWEET dreams come true!

  • The Oompa Loompas are great, I feel a strange kinship with them. Maybe our love of chocolate has given us our shared shape……

  • Willy Wonka is my favourite, because he could so easily be interpreted as a villain (and maybe in a future remake will be.)

  • Charlie obviously, he is a hero to
    All poverished children

  • WilIy Wonka

  • Willy Wonka makes chocolate,
Chocolate is my favourite food group, it’s so great.
    Willy Wonka is immature.
    And not at all demure.
He invents candies that are delicious.
He grants all my chocolate wishes.

  • Charlie Bucket with his heart of gold.
No better person to leave a chocolate empire to, I’m sold.

  • I love Charlie, an ordinary little boy who is not faster, or stronger, or more clever than other children, his family barely had enough to eat. Charlie’s beautiful soul gives his family all they can ever imagine.

  • Has to be that nasty chick that eats bubblegum and blows up into a purple mess, love that scene and that kid deserves a good kick up the bum!

  • Charlie Bucket! He’s a ‘Dahl’ightful kid with a heart of gold, who isn’t swayed by greed or selfishness. He’s generous and possesses great integrity, and shows empathy and care towards others. Charlie treats adults with respect and utmost sincerity. He’s poor but not broken. An inspiring spirit and role model!

  • Mr Bucket (Charlie’s father) reminds me of my husband: unassuming, worked hard, full of common sense. Yes, he might not be as jovial as Grandpa Joe or as whimsical as Willy Wonka, but he keeps the household together! Would love to win this for my husband who works TOO hard!

  • 95 and a half year old grandpa I love how he shows you can always bounce back and find that spark inside no matter what

  • Charlie, because of his innocence and his love for his family

  • The respectful, well mannered Charlie Bucket. His sweet gentle nature doesn’t lead him to complain, instead he cares and shares with his family whilst living in povety. He shows Mr Wonka his humble behaviour by returning the everlasting gobstopper because he knew that it was the honorable thing to do!

  • Charlie – humble and gracious – enjoys sharing the chocolate.

  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – can’t go past Grandpa Joe – loves his chocolate but passes it up for his Grandson Charlie – just like us Mums do! Haven’t had the pleasure of chocolate to myself since becoming a Mum – so please oh please tell me I’ve won!

  • would have to be Charlie I lve that he has the great mind to give back the gobstopper at the end evewn though he had the chance to keep it and give it the bad guy

  • Charlie is my favourite, a lovable kid. Every one wants him to win the golden ticket.

  • Augustus Gloop – he is rude, greedy and totally obsessed with stuffing his face. He is subordinate and his parents give him what he wants. At the factory Mr Wonka tells him not to touch anything but when he sucks the chocolate from the river he falls in and gets squeezed up by one of the tubes. Very funny scene!

  • I have always loved Charlie, such an optimistic, thoughful boy full of kindness and empathy, he is the heart of the story and as Wonka says of his action, “so shines a good deed in a weary world” Charlie is goodness and light
