Hello!

I have a 5 month old daughter who has slept through from 11 weeks. The last week and a half she has been waking from 4:30am which she will put herself back to sleep or we turn on her music and she goes back to sleep but will then wake from 5:30am onwards until we get up with her at 6-6:30am but even then it’s like she is not ready to wake. She has been on solids for a few weeks now. Her room is dark and she is not hot or cold. Would love some advice!

  • Starting solids can certainly change sleep patterns. But first thing what jumped out to me reading your question is that your daughter is 5 months old now and you started solids some weeks ago. Did your baby show signs to start solids ? And what type of solids did you start with ?

  • stages not ages with kids – she is getting stronger, and curious about her world – once she is walking etc more stimulated, she may sleep longer. all the best

  • To me , this is normal!

  • They have a habit of mixing things up just when you think you have that figured out. I just try and go with the flow, no two months are the same for us

  • there are some good comments here

  • how is she now? :)

  • I found that when starting on solids they had tummy pains as they we trying to adjust. It will pass, also she might be teething too. That can also give wind. Good luck

  • How is she going now?

  • how did you go? :)

  • Some really good advice here.

  • She could be going through a growth spurt or teething. Both my kids slept through from 8/9 weeks then went through an unsettled stage and waking early at about 5 months. I’ve found they both go through different stages with their sleep. Hopefully it settles back down for you

  • It would depend on a few things, like how does your little one fall asleep in all sleep situations? Have a look at my page for ideas and contact details or a free call, good luck

  • Need to ride it out. They’ll change their sleep patterns regularly in the first year, almost just as you get used to the last one! It’s a tough time.

  • It’s the sleep regression. I’m going through it right now.

  • I had 4 babies and when I heard that someone had a baby sleeping through at 11 weeks I started to think there was some underground ” baby sleep ” secret. My own, very rough, research determined formula fed babies seemed to sleep “through the night” more than breast fed babies. Mine were breast fed. At 5 months my kids were on solids however woke at midnight and early morning for a feed. They all slept through ie 10-12 hrs a night by about the age of 1. Your baby is still small. Just go with it. This waking is most likely only a phase and he/she will not do this forever. Their needs change as they grow. This early wake up could be linked to thirst, an early morning wee, teething anything!!

  • My girl is the same. I just feed her then she goes back to sleep. Other days she just puts herself back to sleep. It will pass and they will sleep through again. Try changing things but only slightly and that might work too.

  • Nothing stays the same for long with babies under 1yrs old. At 5mths frequent waking could b hunger, teething, soil nappy, wonder week, growth spurt or just restless. …so just ride this wave as my nearly 8 mth old stll has 2feeds at nite but we get to sleep till 8ish most days so not bad at all

  • Most likely its just the change in the season, all my children changed sleep pattens just when I thought I knew what they were. They also started waking up earlier in spring/summer even though they too had dark curtains. They should start sleeping a little longer (not much) in a few more weeks. Goodluck

  • More solids before bed
