Hello!

We are located in QLD, I will be birthing at the RBWH. My husband is studying, so we currently rely on Centrelink (hubby has not been able to pick up much relief teaching like we had hoped). Does anyone know of any free or low cost (under $200) or student doulas that could assist me for my (hopefully) VBAC birth?

  • Have you considered a student midwife (like an earlier post suggested). They can be a great support mechanism and you are contributing to their learning; win win!

  • The Doula College looked like an interesting site.

  • I hope the links have helped you and best of luck. :)

  • I didn’t use a doula but your local health care centre might have some recommendations for you.

  • Before today, I hadn’t heard of a doula before.

Perhaps you could ask your local early learning childhood centre? It’s ran by the state government.

  • Maybe you could get some info from the Australian Doula College http://australiandoulacollege.com.au/

  • There arent too many doulas around but I’d suggest posting in your local mums group on fb and also put feelers out for a student midwife. I’m 3 kids in and a 4th on the way and of the 3 I’ve had a student midwife follow me for 2 pregnancies and attend the births and because they’re learning they’re looking and questioning everything. If not for that, I’d have haemorraged and died possibly with number 2.

  • I have never heard of a doula. I love that about MoMs, I’m always learning something new. Hope you find someone more knowledgeable then me to help you out
