My son was scared to go alone to the men’s toilet till he was about 9 or 10 yrs old.

There’s usually signs saying no boys once a certain age (not sure if it were 6 or 8) I wouldn’t feel comfortable sending them alone. I’d try find a parents room toilet (depending on location of course)

Age 6 or 7. But I always wait outside the main door. And I suggest he lock himself in a cubicle, but have no way of knowing if he does this.

Mine was about 6, but I stood outside the door. 9 is definitely old enough, just be alert

In this day and age I think you’re doing the right thing. No way I’d let my child go on his own. There’s so many psycho’s out there!

Stand out the front of the mens toilet and make your presents KNOW!!

Yes it is very hard I would say around 9-10 my son is now 11 and I tell him straight in and out scream if you need me and if your not out in 2 mins im coming in.

It would depend on the layout of the toilet.

If you can open the door check there is no one there and send him in and wait at the door, go for it.

If you can’t then like others have said parenting room or disabled toilet.

try using the disabled toilet if it’s not in use.

such a personal thing, everyone will have differing views. I remember the 9 year old boy who was assaulted in a WA shopping centre toilets. That’s enough for me to try and hold off as long as I can. My almost 8 year old knows that we all go together in shopping centre toilets.

Yeah my hubby takes my daughter to the parents room or disabled toilet

I used to stand guard outside..lol…But recently i saw a dad take his little girl to the disabled toilet and thought what a great idea ( obviously only if its not needed)

Its not an invalid concern, with the recent David Morcombe trial we know nowhere is safe, ladies bring your boys in to the loo’s or crash the disabled ones, no one really cares, just keep those kids safe

I’ve only started letting mine go alone without an older brother at 11/12.

what did you decide on?

I know my brothers had to go together – strength in numbers? – but if you only have one that isn’t going to work! Lots of other advice from mums with boys below so hope that you have sorted something out.

Its a dilemma, children are used to using the school toilets so about 7 or 8 they may feel more confident and want to go to the mens by themselves. We gave our son a talk about strangers and I would wait outside the toilet for him to come out.
