The 5:2 diet has been coming up quite frequently. I was wondering if anyone has tried it and if, eating just one 500 calorie meal has worked for them. Thanks MoMs.

  • I think it is more effective to focus on eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and on those “fast days” to basically go a little further vegan and reduce/eliminate meats. If you’re eating fresh fruits and vegetables and no processed food, soft drinks etc. you will start to see benefits, look better and feel better (so long as everything else is well with you)


  • So wish there were more MoMs that had tried it as I would be interested to see how it works. I’m currently trying the 14:10 diet where you have tea and don’t eat breakfast until 14 hours later. Me, I eat tea between 5 & 6, eat breakfast after 8am. Hasn’t made a difference to my weight, skin, energy levels…..nothing! So I’m looking for a new one to try


  • Sorry haven’t heard about it before, interested in the theory of it after reading others comments. Wouldn’t work with us as hubby needs to eat regularly, though down sizing the portions has helped start the shift of weight, large servings just became a bad habit so it’s good to have broken that.


  • My husband & I have been on a 600 or under calorie per day diet for a while now. Sometimes we eat just over 400, sometimes just over 500.. and other days it is the full 600! We have been great on it, lost some weight, started sleeping better, don’t even feel hungry, and have heaps of energy.. Previously we were over indulgers, and ate so much over we needed to!

    We’re not on the 5:2 diet, because we stick to the under 600 always, except special occasions, when we will have something more than our planned meals.


  • Tried it (briefly) but like most diets, couldn’t stick to it. In saying that I didn’t mind it. Instead of one meal, I split my 500 calories into breakfast and dinner (skipped lunch). Didn’t feel too hungry and knew I could eat next day if I wanted. My biggest problem was that my husband didn’t do it with me so I found it too easy to eat when he did.


  • yep, it works! my boss has lost a tonne of weight and she is in her 60’s!! looks amazing


  • I also haven’t tried it, but have heard it gets easier as you get used to it. I also get headaches and very fatigued if I cut my calories too much.


  • I haven’t done it personally as I need to eat regularly or I get headahces – but I have heard positive things from a few people who do it. Also LCHF (low carb high fat) is big at the moment.


  • Would be interested to hear feedback on this also.
