Hello!

She is super clingy with me and will cry if I’m not within a close range.

  • Sometimes it just takes time, she wont always be like that

  • She is only very little and she still needs her mum but she will grow out of it

  • Bub is only 1, don’t be too concerned, she will most likely grow out of it soon enough. Then you’ll be wishing for all the lost close contact

  • I think as above- your little one is only a year old and separation anxiety would be playing a part, as well as just wanting/needing to be close to mum. It will change, give her lots of cuddles and reassurance. If you wanted you could try very short amounts of time going away and saying I’ll be right back – like go to the kitchen. But make sure you do come right back. Your child will learn you’re there and will come back even when they can’t see you. Try very short times like a few seconds then gradually build up to longer. But always come back. Let her see you’re there but that she’s ok when she can’t ‘see you’ as such.
Lots of cuddles and reassurance. Also if you have a partner or grandparents that she knows very well then spending time with these people will help build her up and reassure her. But it’s a common stage and babies do need their mums.

  • I think it’s pretty normal at this age. Just give her love when she is feeling insecure. Go exploring with her and let her explore things by herself with time she will feel more confident.

  • At 1 year old I would not be worried, maybe she is picking up on your anxiety over it, just relax and enjoy while small, they grow up too quick. May just need a little more attention and comforting, and once she feels secure she will not be so clingy. Make her feel safe and loved.

  • Separation anxiety is normal for a child this age. Just love on her and give her time, it’ll change. In the meantime let her experience the love of your partner and others too.
