Hello!

Does anyone know about cultivating yoghurt? I have heard you can make your own yoghurt using live cultures and wondered if anyone has tried this and whether it actually tasted good? If so, can you recommend any brands?

  • yes it is so easy and tastes great and best of all its cheap and quick to make
simply buy an easyo yogurt maker kit from big w ( comes with 1l thermal yogurt maker)
then don’t ever buy an easyo sachet cos they are expensive. instead buy a yogurt culture (i buy from green living Australia) one sachet is less than 20 dollars and makes up to 100L of yogurt and it stores in your freezer.
Then its simply heating a 1L uht milk (quicker and easier than using standard milk) to 38degrees. add a dose of culture, 1 cup of milk powder (gives a thicker yogurt) put in your thermal easyo yogurt maker (with boiling water to marker) and in 8-10 hrs you have yougurt. will cost around 1.50 a litre to make, takes 5min to prep and if you put it on before work and then transfer to fridge when home and the next day you have yogurt.

  • Great! Really interesting reading the comments to this!

  • Easiyo Yogurt you can buy the set up from Woolworths or Coles on special for only $10.00 then buy the packets full of probiotic goodness. You put the packet mix into the cylindrical container and fill with warm water leave overnight and you have fresh yogurt ready to eat in the morning for breakfast. The greek flavour is my favourite. The Probiotics fixes up any gut or poo problems too & gives you a good boost to ward off illness or colds. I haven’t had a cold in many years and my children are the same all thanks to Easi Yo Yogurt.

  • Easiyo is easy. Sometimes the yoghurt doesn’t set perfectly though. Hansell’s brand can also be used in the easiyo and sometimes is cheaper to buy.

  • there are some good comments here

  • I am wanting to make my own as well but also a frozen version love the last comment on how easy to make

  • Yogurt is really easy to make, you just need to get into the habit of doing it. I find if I stop, it take a while to get started again. you don’t need a yogurt maker, a ceramic bowl with lid that can fit comfortably into another bowl (can be made of any material). I use warm UHT milk and full cream milk powder, the more fully cream milk powder you add the thicker the consistency of the yogurt. I add 3 tablespoons for 500ml of UHT milk. The yogurt starter can be purchased from the supermarket, anything for the easiyo range or otherwise. Add a few tablespoons to your initial batch. Place the ceramic bowl with all the yogurt ingredients into the other bowl with boiling water filled half way, then close the lid to the outer bowl. If you dont have a lid use any lid that will close it, it does not need to seal. the yogurt should be left overnight and should be ready in the morning. Subsequent batches of yogurt can be made using a tablespoon of the previous yogurt batch, no need to use a starter.

  • We have a yoghurt maker and it does it

  • yogurt makers seem to be the best option. I think you can use yogurt as a starter too

  • i would love an easy-yo :)

  • Sounds like easiyo is the way to go.

  • I loved all suggestions and recommendations, I didn’t post this but I’ve been inspired to give it a go.

  • I remember you could get an Easy-Yo kit which was to make homemade yogurt.

  • Did you end up making your own yoghurt?

  • The Easiyo is great :)

  • My wife won an Easiyo and recommend to anyone who wants to make their own yoghurt.

  • Easiyo I mean :)

  • If you want to buy and easyio you can get them from Coles or Woolworths in the jelly/ice-cream section

  • The easiyo sounds amazing. I would be interested to try it as we love yoghurt
