Hello!

Just wondering how many MoMmies use a packet, can or jar recipe base meal when they cook dinner each night or do you cook things from scratch?

  • To be honest I never use packets, there is literally noting nutritious in a packet

  • I cook mostly from scratch, but do use here and there a tin of chopped tomatoes, beans and lentils to add to fresh veggies or soups

  • When it comes to pasta I will sometimes use sauce out of a jar, and sometimes I make a sauce from scratch, likewise with curries.

  • I use both, out of jar and from scratch depending on time and what l’m cooking!

  • nah, pretty fresh cook. I do tinned fish, and beans, but mostly cook from garden herbs, veg from the local grocer, and meat from the butcher

  • Jars and packets can be good for holiday shortcuts.

  • I’ve tried heaps of packet and jar recipes. None of them are nice. I have one packet that I consistently buy, everything else I cook from scratch, so much nicer

  • I have never really liked packet or jarred recipe bases so haven’t used them a lot. And when you look at the amount of salt, sugar and sometimes fat in these pre made recipes, well that’s more reason to avoid them. Nothing tastes as good as from scratch home made cooking

  • If I have time its from scratch.

  • Depends on time, money and how easy it is to make – ie my béchamel sauce is horrendous so it’s worth me buying a jar of dolmio whereas tomato pasta sauce is pretty easy and cheaper to make with canned tomatoes.

  • Half and half. Often a packet is included, like flavoring for taco meet. Jar sauce in bolognese. Baked beans. Tinned soup for lunch. But my husband does a lot of cooking and cooks from scratch more, he’s much quicker at cooking than me! Jars can still be part of an easy meal

  • Depends on what I am cooking, sometimes I use a jar or packet them add extra to it.

  • Both.. it depends on how i’m feeling if i’ve had a rough day then i’ll use a packet mix but usually i like to cook a nice healthy meal from scratch

  • I used to be totally from scratch, now I live alone I have some things from packets. Mostly I buy sauces in packets, or jars, just heat and pour over. The mixed vegetable steam packs are also great. I sometimes make packet cakes when I am taking a carry in to a church event etc. I add real butter, never margarine, and add eggs even if it is not required, it just tastes better.

  • mostly from scratch because it just tastes so much better and its also healthier. but always have some in the cupboard in for easy nights

  • Mainly from scratch; however good for a quick meal and sometimes a combination when cutting corners.

  • depends on what it is. but practice and experiment and you will get an idea of what things go together

  • Depends entirely – tonight was from scratch, almost, but with a lot of chopping and stirring. Love making things from scratch but it is a time thing, and if you don’t have time it’s much easier to open a jar – there’s some really good products out there on the market these days, suitable for many options.

  • It’s a mixture for us – some times I will use a packet mix especially if it’s my daughters night to cook because I want her to get some confidence with cooking and also if we are pressed for time I might use one. Other times I will make from scratch it just depends.

  • Im a bit of both wen I comes to pasta ill go jars but wen its.like potato bake ill use of packers
