  • 6 is fine for Butter Menthols. I would hesitate to give them to a really young child (choking hazard) but she should be fine.

  • I never gave this to my children, but I think it depends on your child and you yourself know the best if your daughter can cope with it or not.

  • I think it’s best to ask the doctor

  • I think the pack says 5 and over so should be fine. My daughter hated the taste so have never had to worry about it. Good luck mumma.

  • There are so many soft cough drops now and also sugar free ones. I think butter menthols are too hard and also contain a lot of sugar , hence that is why they taste so sweet .

  • Warm water honey and lemon sounds good!

  • well maybe you could go another route. Give her a glass of warm water, honey and lemon and it can help to soothe her.

  • Is there instructions on the package at all. I know there is on Strepsils and other medicated brands. Provided she sucks them and doesn’t chew them and them have sharp points on them they should be OK.

  • Does it state an age limit on the packet. My eldest is 8 and I have never bothered with throat lozenges with him.

  • she is past the choking age so if you think she needs it give it to her, my kids have my menthol lollies when they have a sore thought. Im surprised but they really like them and it stops the tickle in their throughs….

  • Butter menthols are more like lollies in my opinion. They don’t really help a sore throat. I think it’s ok to give them to a child in moderation but more like a treat then as medicine.

  • It also does depend on the reason for the sore throat. Sometimes a throat needs to be treated by a GP.

  • I would ask at the chemist as they will know the appropriate ages for lozenges and they may even have a product that is more effective than butter menthol.

  • Good question – maybe check with your gp or email the company
