We never used a walker, because they can be quite dangerous.

I wouldn’t use a walker at all. As a foster carer they are banned items for foster children – something to do with developing muscles too soon or in the wrong way… To me, they are old fashioned items that probably shouldn’t be around any more

My kids were happily in a walker at 4-5 months with no ill effects. They too started off with backwards walking, but didn’t take long to work out forwards. Like all baby things, they get bored of it eventually, they need liars of stimulation

My bub was in a walker at approx age 5 months. It took a while for him to get the hang of moving it, and a little longer to work out the forward thing, but once he had it Sussex….he was off! I think they’re great, would do it all again

Best age would b once they start to crawl. Even if they walk in it backwards before forwards is fine. Im sure your not having her in it all day so it wont effect her walking

yeah people don’t like using walkers anymore but me and my sister did as kids and we are fine. I was given a walker for my first born and she tried it only a few times but would try to scoot up to something and stop and play or cry because she was stuck. she preferred being able to crawl around and chase the cat lol which she couldn’t get near in the walker. Supervision is key and obviously doors, different floor surfaces, rugs might present problems and dangling items, phone cords, tablecloths, curtains should be kept out of bub’s reach.

I think she is just getting tired quickly. Your daughter is using and developing muscles that have never been used that way before.. Given time she will develop her stamina and muscle mass to deal with this. Just keep an eye on her and t should be all right.

Choice.com.au don’t recommend the use of walkers on the grounds that it teaches kids to walk on their toes which isn’t good. There’s also a risk involved if you have uneven surfaces because there have been incidents where babies in walkers have toppled down stairs. If you’d still like your little one to use the walker, just make sure that it’s a nice flat surface 🙂

The best spot for a baby is the floor. They will learn to build up muscles with tummy time. Walkers can put unneeded pressure on the joints. Some children also become toe walkers which can cause issues later. Babies learn to crawl before they can walk and they will do it when they are ready.
Personally I wouldn’t use one.

Your child will learn to walk without a walker. Overuse of a walker will not encourage the correct development of muscles. Have lots of low furniture/toys for your child to pull themselves up on and they will begin to move as they gain muscle strength and balance. Although a walker is great to keep bub occupied for a few minutes while getting something done just don’t over use.

my boy is 6 months and moves around ok in it. he also bounces in mine and loves it. he’s big for his age.
