Hello!

My daughter is currently 4 months old and I have been asked a couple of times about whether I was going to get her ears pierced. At the moment I don’t have any preference other than maybe in a couple of years but I would be interested to find out other views on getting them done earlier rather than later and why.

  • Is there a reason you want your baby to have them pierced now? Watch out for all the hate comments. I think most girls/women these days have their ears pierced as it is another way to accessorise. I think people have the belief that if you get them done young they won’t feel it and won’t remember it hurting. I have a son who decided when he was 4 that he wanted his ears pierces because I had 3 on each ear. He got one done, but refused to get his second one done because of the pain. He did get them both done when he was 8 but let them close over after having to take them out all the time for sport.

  • I would wait till she is at least 13 and can make the decision herself.

  • It also depends on the child. Whereas my eldest 2 daughters had their ears pierced when they were around 6yrs old, my youngest is 6yrs old and I wouldn’t think about getting her ears pierced as I suspect she would pull the earrings out just like that.
My now 9yr old removed her earrings on a certain point and her holes are now closed and I don’t think about getting them pierced again till she’s way older and takes responsibility. However my now 15yr old takes care for them well and always has. She added this year more earrings herself at home. She has 4 holes in 1 ear, 2 holes in the other ear and 1 nose ring.

  • I think that age is just too early. I would say a minimum of 5 years.

  • I waited till they have an own opinion about it and expressed they wanted it around age 6yrs.

My 14yr old added recently a cartlige piercing and a nose piercing, as I think she’s old enough to make that decision. I personally wouldn’t approve if she would add other piercings in cheek or lip, eyebrow, belly button or nipple.

  • I wouldn’t do it till she’s a teenager and can express an opinion.

  • I don’t understand why people asking when your child is so young . I think it is better to wait at least 5 or 6 till they ask or know what ear piercing is . My daughter go done around that age because her cousin who was her age at the time wanted it done . Sje didn’t do it till a week later as she wanted to think a out it . it was a really cute time when I think about it as they got it done at a chemist and behaved very well sitting in the chair . She said it didn’t hurt .

  • My personal opinion is not until they are old enough to ask and also take some responsibility in cleaning them etc (probably no earlier than 6 years but more like 8 years) I don’t agree with piercing babies ears :-(

  • My ears were pierced when I was six months old. My daughter is a teenager and does not want her ears pierced. I’m okay with whatever she decides.

  • I don’t have any daughters but my sisters & I had our ears pierced on our 2nd birthdays.
It became a family tradition but sadly no more girls have entered our lives to continue the tradition . . . yet!

  • I didn’t have daughters, but I was eight when I got mine done

  • get them done when you are ready. no rush mumma!

  • I’d suggest waiting until your daughter is old enough to ask. My daughter is eight and has observed other girls younger than her with her ears pierced. She is thinking about it, but has decided not yet. I didn’t get mine pierced until I was 19. I don’t think my daughter will wait that long though!

  • I wouldn’t pierce them until she is old enough to ask for them and get them done properly with a needle. The gun causes so many problems.

  • Everyone in my family got their daughters done when they started asking for them. Was roughly around 4 years of age. My only advice would be to go to someone who does them both at the same time!

  • it is a personal choice. you could wait until they want it done?

  • I’m just going to wait until she asks for it, and has been explained what is required in terms of maintenance etc. so she knows what she’s in for. I personally don’t see any need for her to have pierced ears as a baby/toddler, so I’ll leave the decision to her.

  • I had my daughters ears pierced at 6 months and she has no problems.
It is a personal preference and not everyone is going to agree with your choice.

  • My daughter asked when she was 4 and I said no, she was too young. She is now 6 and hasn’t asked again, but I think if she asks again we will get it done. I wanted her to be old enough to understand what she was doing and be able to look after them herself.

  • I’ve left it up to them…..daughter number 1 was 3 when she asked for them so I went to a pharmacy that did both holes at the 1 time. Daughter 2 is almost 3 but hasn’t asked me yet!
