Hello!

I have a 6 year old and 9 year old who still wet the bed, we have tried the bed wetting alarm for about 6 months but didn’t seem to make a dent. Majority of the time it’s every night, with the occasional day or few days here and there that are dry. We have followed all of the traditional remedies and reward systems and they currently get up, strip their bed and put them in the wash – plus make their beds that night. It’s almost become routine. Any one with a similar thing that they found something that worked?

  • Try to reduce liquid intake a few hours before bed. Get them to go to the toilet just before bed and if you are up later you can take them again before you go to bed yourself. Maybe look into night time pull ups to cut down on the need to strip the beds every night. A common cause of bed wetting in older children can be worms so maybe treat them just in case and see if that makes a difference.

  • I actually think that kids eventually do grow out of this, but in their own time. One thing that we do though is because my kids go to bed earlier than us, we take them to the toilet before we go to bed at night, so that at least it helps them get though most or all of the night dry.

  • My son regularly wet his bed till he was 12yrs old, then he grew out of it. We made little fuss of it; just reduced water intake in the evening, brought him to the toilet around 11pm when we went to bed ourselves and when he wet the bed we just changed it and put new sheets on without any negative comment or drama.
My 6yr old has Down syndrome and she isn’t fully toilet trained yet but getting there during the day time. During the night she wears a nappy and pull ups to school.

  • I don’t have any answers. I’m just sending hugs to you. When something is challenging everyday, it can seem that things may never change, Hang in there, you are doing a wonderful job.
