  • A bird, stick insect, or sea monkies.

  • A small dog or cat would be my choice.

  • Dogs and cats make wonderful pets as do goldfish and budgies!

  • I would suggest chickens. The children can help feed them and collect the eggs. They are very low maintenance.

  • Guinea pigs are a winner. Not really high maintenance and the kids adore holding them.

  • We have a mini foxy (fox terrier) Who is like a little shadow with the kids, he’s nice natured, follows them everywhere, really gentle but still loves to play, quiet and doesn’t bark often. A search on google brings up Some details about them – Lifespan: 12 – 18 years
Temperament: Inquisitive, Bold, Protective, Loyal, Tenacious, Loving
Height: Female: 24 – 30 cm (Adult, Male, At the withers), Male: 24 – 30 cm (Adult, Female, At the withers)
Mass: Male: 3.5 – 5.5 kg (Adult, Female), Female: 3.5 – 5.5 kg (Adult, Male)
    Colors: White & Tan, Tri-color, Black & White :)

  • oh hermit crabs are cool! you can buy some awesome shells unless you want to paint your own which is a great activity for the kids to try out plus helps them recognise which crab is theirs. the kids will love their own crabs.

  • depends on the space you have. fish are great but so are dogs.

  • Just be aware that kids can hurt smaller animals- rabbits, guinea pigs etc can be a bit fragile if your kids are a bit heavy handed.
I would recommend a dog, but I’m such a dog lover! I would also recommend going to a local shelter where you can meet all the dogs they have and spend some time with them before making your decision- that way you can get a dog that matches your family’s personality and will fit right in!
    Good Luck!

  • Dog sounds cool, might even look for a rabbit or guinea pig, gunna think about it!

  • I would recommend a guinea pig or a rabbit, for a small child that they could touch.A budgie or a gold fish are also a good idea.

  • The type of pet depends on your family and lifestyle. Dogs & cats make great pets. Be prepared to exercise dogs – they need walks. All animals need lots of time and attention too. Also factor in vet bills. Fish make first good pets too.

  • We have 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 fish LOL. I am a huge cat lover so we have always had cats and they are indoor cats too. The kids love them.
A dog is an awesome idea if you have the time to train and walk it etc
Fish are always entertaining and relaxing to watch and rather easy for a first pet :)

  • Depends on the space you have and the time you can give to a pet. We have a border collie but we live out of town and he can run with the kids all day and get all the exercise he needs. Dogs are great companions but you need to have the space/time to be able to walk them. Cats are lower maintenance but can be nitpicky around children.

  • It really depends on what pet/s your children like, wether it would be an indoor or outdoor pet, the size of your yard, the amount of time you have to offer a pet, etc.

Dogs make good active pets but they do require a lot of attention & you would need to choose a breed most suited for your family.
Rabbits also make good pets, they don’t require a lot of room so are good for people with not much yard room.
Cat’s are cute, cuddly & don’t require a lot of active attention but can leave a lot of hair & require to be kept in cages or inside, you would have to check with your local council on regulations.
Personally I would go with a dog. Get a pup & let it grow & learn with your children.
