Hello!

We are off on a tropically holiday and I’d like to ensure I protect my children from bugs. What are the best and safe products to use on babies skin?

  • Tea tree oil is really good for this.

  • I guess it depends on where you are going. If it’s overseas there are lots of other considerations to make too.

There are two main products that I have used with young children. One is a repellant ‘sticker’ that you can place on the skin of very young children, like on their back. It expels the repellant by the heat from the body. It is had a plastic layer so the repellant isn’t in contact with the skin.

There are also wrist bands you can get that hold repellant pods that last a few weeks to a month. The child needs to be old enough not to suck on it etc though. They are awesome and I used them myself. I found for restless sleepers one for arm and ankle worked best.

Both should be available through good camping stores. Some non-major supermarkets have been known to stock the sticky dots too.

All the best with your holiday!

  • Ive used tea tree oil diluted with water in a small spray bottle. It also helps with soothing of itchiness.

  • You have special Mosquito bands, but I think the best prevention is still a Mosquito net and covering especially at dusk & dawn.

  • Depends on their age. If they are over 6 months there are organic insect repellents you can use. Not sure for the really little ones though.

  • Lavender oil, there is a diluted one you can buy by Bosisto, you might find some advice on their website too.
