No sure but great Question as I’m after sane thing.

Firstly you need to know where your and your neighobur’s plumbimng and other services run on your properties are. Some plants have very aggressive root systems. They will also damage any type of paving, some types of fencing and tangle around gas pipes, telephone and electricity cabling etc.the plants themselves could also grow too wide and push on them – some grow very thick stems in ideal soil – including even grape vines although ivy has to be the worst. leaf fall – you don’t want to be blocking your neighbour or your gutters. The roots of some plants including some screen plants can spread sev eral metres underground too (I found that out the hard way) and will also strangle the roots of others, including possibly your neighbour’s. We had that happen to one of our shrubs.

Bamboo works well, just make sure you don’t get one that spreads.

aren’t lilly pilly supposed to be fast growing and dense privacy hedging plants? Don’t go conifers, they can be hell to cut back once grown

I like the sound of the plum and murraya I am going to google them!

There is a prunus plum that has been specifically designed for narrow blocks. Its shape is that of a pencil pine. It is deciduous and has lovely pink flowers in print. Ours are in full sun and look fantastic. They grow tall and fast and ours haven’t ever needed pruning – as with all things, they need water to establish. Good luck with whatever you choose!

You cannot go past a murraya. They are hardy, have a beautiful scent when their flowers blossom, and grow to a great height in the right conditions. They love full sun and make great screening hedges.
