  • trying to get my 15 month old too. he wakes a few times a nght still. wont take formula or cows milk :(

  • My aunt had the same problem with my nephew & she rubbed a small amount of mustard around her nipple & then offered the bottle when her son didn’t like the taste. It’s not harmful & does the trick! Good luck

  • By that age you could try offering a substitute, Thankfully my son was just off and on his way, I’ll be following this for future reference!

  • I have been in the ax act same situation – in hindsight I would have stopped breastfeeding much earlier if I knew how hard it would be to stop. My son is now 26 months old snd a week ago I finally stopped breastfeeding. I’ve tried in the past and it didn’t work but this time was relatively easy. I did the same thing s girl in my mothers group did – I told him mummy’s boobies were broken. The girst night he was upset but after that he just excepted it. Might be worth a try.

  • Being firm and say no.

  • there are some good comments here

  • start trying the bottles and see how she acts with them// or he, sorry :)

  • Give her plenty of cuddles (without the feeding part) so that she knows it is not an emotional thing.

  • Are you stopping because you are worried about what others may think? I breasted my daughter till she was 3.5 years of age…I had to stop because it was beginning to hurt. Like your son, my daughter only wanted it to help her sleep. As my daughter was a little older than your son I was able to tell her why I couldn’t give her breast milk anymore….she used to try and cry but I just laid with her and read her a story, patting her and singing her to sleep. It was hard but if you do the same thing every night, the consistency will pay off. So just getting back to your reason of wanting to stop. If breast feeding is still comfortable, I don’t see why your son shouldn’t continue as breast milk does wonders for his health. My daughter used to get over flus and colds quickly but since being weaned off breast milk her immune system is not that great as it was! I understand the negative comments that many people will say to you about your child being to old….I had that when she was only one….but for my daughters health I continued until I couldn’t. Hope this helps some. All the best in which ever you do decide to do.

  • By the way,I always have water with me at night because he asks for it.But after drinking water he asks for milk to put him back to sleep. He still wakes up couple times at night for a feed. Please help..Thanks!!!

  • I’m sorry for not elaborating my question. It’s my first time to ask.Anyway,my situation is that I really wanna stop my son from breastfeeding since he’s almost two.I do think I left it for too long.Anyway,he’s got good appetite on food so I don’t have problem with that. Thanks for the suggestion,Brookemoy. My real problem is that he asks for a feed when he’s tired. It’s the only way he’ll sleep. He’s never liked dummies so that makes it harder. He doesn’t really like full cream milk.He drinks powdered milk but only when his 4 year old brother asks.He doesn’t even finish his cup.He just like to do what his big brother does. And there’s no way he’ll have anything but breastmilk to sleep.Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.Thank you.

  • What have you tired? Why won’t she wean off? If you have what you have tired and why you think she won’t do it we might be able to give you some more answers but try feeding more food and water or just try and cut down your feeds, if she is eating enough she won’t be hungry for breast milk, cut it down to one feed a day for about a week and then stop feeding all together. See Iowa that hoes and let us know how you went!
