Hello!

I have noticed a couple of big cockroaches and the small German ones lately….i don’t really want to get an exterminator as i don’t want to expose them to chemicals

  • Mix baking soda with sugar to make a killer combination
A concoction of baking soda and sugar is an effective cockroach killer and controls the multiplication of these pests. Sugar acts as a bait to attract cockroaches and the baking soda kills them.

  • I deal with every one I see before they have a chance to breed! Sometimes this is as simple as carrying the log of wood outside that they came in on; othertimes it might involve stomping, or spot spraying. It has made a difference since I’ve done this.

  • I don’t like to fumigate because it kills everything and I don’t like seeing lizards, geckos, bees and butterflies dying. I’ve never had an infestation of cockroaches but found the easiest way to kill them is to stomp on them with shoes on or slap them with a thong or other weapon. They like warm dark places so you could go looking for them and give them a quick burst with fly spray to slow them down and splatter them. My dad had a huge infestation of them every summer so I got those cockroach baits and put them under his fridge and washing machine and in cupboards and it took care of them. You could Google it for more natural ways.

  • I have always used Cucumber skin and placed it in my pantry and around the house. Seems to work. When it drys out I replace it with fresh skin-needless to say we eat a lot of Cucumbers.

  • I need answers on this as well. My house is always clean and tidy but I find one a week, big creepy ones. Yuk!

  • No tips for naturally getting rid of them, but when we moved to this house we are in, it was infestedbin cockroaches! We just started spraying them like crazy and put out poison (Advion) in cracks and corners (where kids couldn’t get it) and we hardly see them anymore.

  • Check shady damp areas of your garden. We discovered we had some in that area when I used to live. The people next door to us had pest exterminator (the area is bad for white ants) and a week or so we discovered we had cockroaches in the garden under a shady bush near the fence.

  • I fumigate once a year – I tend to think the chemicals are less dangerous than the vermin.

  • Hi! I actually came to read the answers, great question. We usually do a bit clean out, especially the floors when we see any.

  • Hope you have success with some of the natural alternatives.

  • Cockroaches like water and moist areas around and in a home and it is best to ensure there are no leaks around the house. They like to hide; particularly near moist areas and this is a good place to check and to use lavender and peppermint to deter them.

  • I have recently read of using peppermint oil in a spray to keep away a whole range of nasties

  • Any insects hate strong smelling oils, like eucalyptus, tea tree, lavender and peppermint. So make up a spray and spray where they like to hide, and most important get rid of their food source if you can find it. Wipe down all benches, cupboards, along the skirting rails too with the spray.
