Hello!

I loathe the taste of coriander, was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a good substitute?

  • The best substitutes for coriander seeds include cumin, garam masala, curry powder and caraway.

  • you cant really substitute another herb for coriander as if a recipe requires it the coriander flavor is important for the dish. if you don’t like coriander just don’t use it,there is no need for substitution

  • Flat leaf parsley….same family but not as strong

  • Nothing – this is the best herb ever!!!!!

  • I don’t like coriander either. When a recipe asks for it, or I leave it out, or I use parsley instead.

  • I don’t like it either, has a funny taste. I just leave it out of the recipe all together.

  • You can substitute with parsley or spring onion.

  • As it has a kick to it maybe chilli?

  • slightly different but i use coriander seeds, they last longer

  • I just wouldn’t use it :) if you need to garnish the dish then flat leaf parsley looks very alike to corriander

  • It depends on what you are cooking! Sometimes it’s just a garnish.. Other times, can use parsley? Or if Asian cooking, spring onions?

  • I tend to use italian mixed herbs or all season mix in most of my cooking :D

  • I used to hate corriander too, but have developed a taste for it now. Try a mix of corrander and parsley or just replace it with parsley

  • Parsley definitely seems to be the popular choice to substitute, which is good as it’s one of the few things that I’ve been able to grow in my herb garden. Thanks everyone for your advice!

  • Lovage will give the same effect in a recipe, parsley will work if using it as a garnish

  • I think I’m the same, why not just skip it completely lol

  • parsley or lemon zest or another herb you think will go well with the dish

  • My mum hates coriander and when she is making a recipe that call for it she will substitute with continental parsley.

  • Never thought about it, going to do some thinking ;)

  • Great question – I can’t stand it either! Some useful suggestions here too. Thanks all!
