Hello!

I stopped breastfeeding my daughter 6 months ago, and have gained weight so quickly! Plus I’m always hungry! How have you maintained your weight? Did you put weight on after breastfeeding?

  • I’ve slowly put on weight over the years and am struggling to get it off.

  • I did!!

  • Following this. I’m still breastfeeding but want to make sure that I don’t put on weight when I finish and am looking at how to maintain a healthy diet and exercise.

  • Yes, I did. I lost a few kgs while feeding after the first year. I managed to maintain this weight for a few months after stopping but then it stacked on! I too, was always hungry! I actually started drinking ‘Yummy mummy’ smoothies (losebabyweight.com.au) to help fill me up. They are not diet shakes, as such they are full of fibre, protein and other goodies to help fill you up and keep you fuller for longer…check out their website….

  • I’m following this question because I have just stopped breastfeeding my daughter. I worked hard to lose weight before I conceived and I’ve lost more weight while breastfeeding so I don’t want to put it all back on.

I’m planning on watching what I eat (I use MyFitnessPal which has a great Food and Exercise Diary) and getting back into exercising. I’m currently looking for work so I’m lucky that I have the time (inbetween job searching) to exercise, do chores, go shopping, go for walks etc..

    Good luck with your journey!

  • I did the opposite. I lost weight while breastfeeding and struggled to put it back on for a long time. Keep yourself healthy – don’t worry too much about your weight

  • Yes, I did! My son is now 3.5 and I fed him to 17 months. From then on my weight has crept up to a place where I need to lose 20 kilos. I have lost 4 since New year by swimming, walking and trying to watch what I eat. I’m taking baby steps – I kilo a week at most and trying to be happy with that. My goal is 20kgs off by June. I found a stroller that supports his weight and he’s happy in so I can walk fast for 45 mins most days. I don’t enjoy it, and he’s not overly keen but I need to keep doing it. Swimming 1 hour once or twice is my ‘me’ time and is incredibly satisfying. My advice is get moving before the weight creeps up as it is so much easier to put on than lose (so unfair!) and harder the older you get!

  • sadly, yes, every single kilo i lost came straight back

  • I didn’t. I lost a lot while breastfeeding but I don’t recall putting on weight after I stopped, when my daughter turned 1 year.

  • Keeping fit and healthy is a constant job! :)

  • Each time love the weight lose during B/F. Just meant getting in there and really working on it. This last time is the hardest as I was not so young (53) and was B/F twins until 12 months. One drew blood so took both of them off to be fair. I am still having to be careful with what I eat and no finishing off the children’s meals my downfall.

  • Yep, I stacked it on when I stopped expressing for my little one. He’s just turned two and I’m finally getting close to being in my healthy weight range again. It took an entire year to do so though.

  • Walking and having almonds on hand to snack on

  • Yes; walking and healthy lifestyle choices helps.

  • not that much but you will have to start watching what you eat

  • I put on so much weight too, but I put it down to it really taking it out of you when breastfeeding, and being up and down 24/7, you dont have a chance to put weight on. Just eat healthy and try and fill up on proteins at brekky. Learn to stop just before you are full. Good luck xx

  • No I didn’t. I stacked it on towards the end of breastfeeding.
