Hello!

My newborn sleeps so much better when in bed with me. Did your newborn sleep better when they slept with you?

  • Yes and recent research (2021) shows that a baby’s health can improve when they sleep close to parents. In fact, babies that sleep with parents have more regular heartbeats and breathing. They even sleep more soundly. And being close to parents is even shown to reduce the risk of SIDS.

  • Yes he slept way better with me and still does, if he is in his cot he will wake up through the night without a doubt and sometimes he wakes up as soon as i attempt to put him in there. Everyone is different but I found co-sleeping worked best for us, we both get the rest we need this way.

  • Yes newborns tend to sleep better when close to mum and all mine did but if you don’t plan on co sleeping don’t let it be a habit that they get used to.

  • Yes. Slept better in my chest and all cuddled up. =) he is 2 months now and sleeps by himself.

  • I think it is probably better just to put cot or bassinet in your bedroom so you can watch the baby if you need to. I am not sure about what you have been informed , but it is very dangerous to sleep with a newborn especially the risk of suffocation and injury . They are too tiny to sleep in the same bed so I wouldn’t even think about it . Just what I have been told from Day 1 .

  • Absolutely!
Family & friends frowned upon me for it but there is a bond & all of my babies settled a lot easier & happier when close with Mummy. I don’t know if it has to do with heartbeat or scent but I also slept easier with them close.
I’ve had friends who have put their newborns straight into their own bedrooms!
I wouldn’t give up those few sweet months of closeness for anything!

  • Of course, they love the closeness to mum! It’s a dreadfully hard habit to break when you’ve had enough tho

  • For sure. The trick is to balance it so they don’t get into the habit of only being able to sleep with you

  • All three of our boys have slept better when in bed with us as newborns. I found that they would constantly wake with both the bassinett and the cot. Dad has always ended up cuddling them in our bed and they have slept much better and we didn’t have to get up every time for 30mins-1 hour trying to settle them to stay in their own bed.

Babies just seem to want to stay with their parents. I suppose they can hear your heart beat and feel your warm breath near them and feel safer and more secure than being in their own bed away from mum and dad.

  • My first one didn’t, she slept in her cot and slept well as well. However my second one won’t sleep in her cot so sleep with me and she sleep well but I can’t sleep well as I am always waking up to check on her.

  • yes i found that they do because my heart sounds are comforting to bub and we smell safe to them

  • We both slept better when my newbie was in bed with me. There has been new research to show that babies should sleep on their mother’s chest for the first few months and in their bed for the first three years. My first little one rarely slept with me and she is a shocking sleeper still. My second little one has always slept with me and she is a much better sleeper than the first.

  • they did I didn’t! it is about habit i think

  • First bub yes, second bub no. Our eldest slept so much better next to me that it became a bit of a habit / almost easier to have him sleep in our bed (poor hubby spent many nights in the spare room). Our new bub however moves around so much when she sleeps that a body next to her becomes a distraction.
