Hello!

Hi everyone, I’m at the point where i have just no idea on what to cook for tea. We are a family of 6- my husband and I and 4 kids 18,15,13 & 4.
I’m fed up with cooking the same boring meals like spag bol, curry, nuggets, schnitzel. Anyone have some great ideas that could help a fellow mum out? Thanks

  • Wraps, cooked chook in rolls with salad, Pies with mash and veg, toasties.

  • I’d google different recipes for ideas.

  • Look through the recipe section here for some great ideas and variations on those basics as well.

  • Soups and casseroles or stews are great. Recipes with hidden veggies for the little ones are awesome

  • I have this same problem, same old meals because they are the ones that my 3 kids will eat. Tacos are always a hit and can be versatile in what fillings each person wants. Last night we had roast chook with salad. The kids chose which salads they wanted; baby tomatoes, lettuce, corn kernels, pasta salad etc. They were all happy and it was a healthy meal.

  • How about homemade pizzas! they can add toppings. Have two different large or three.
big roast chicken with vegetables or in wraps.

  • I do a lot of stir frys as they are easy and can serve them with rice. Hot pot meals stews etc are good to throw in one pot etc. How about the older kids suggesting and helping you out . You shouldn’t be slaving over the kitchen by yourself especially when older children can help out . Involving them with ideas does make eating more enjoyable . I better start training my 19 year old ….

  • Maybe ask the older kids what they suggest? Roasts are always good

  • turn your schnitzel into a Parma with some salsa ham and cheese. I get chicken files from butcher they are yummy or maybe pork spareribs.

  • I simply love stir fry’s as they are quick and easy and everybody gets their fill of vegetables.

  • Chicken kebabs have become a hit in our house served on rice

  • stir fry
    slow cook meal
    casserole
    quiche
    pasta bake
    salad rolls
    chicken and gravy rolls
    pizza scrolls
    vegie stack
    caesar salad
    tandoori chicken
    mussaman beef
    teriyaki chicken
    butter chicken

  • On facebook there is a page called FaceCook- my dinner rules, so many recipe ideas and tips, a great bunch of people

  • Recently felt that way myself I decided to go to the local supermarket and pick up some of them food magazines eventually I found a few new meal ideas. Some I wouldn’t of normally tried.

  • Stuffed capsicums, peppers, tomatoes with mince & rice…
Baked potatoes with coleslaw, or sour cream, cheese and bacon bits..
    Tried a quiche?…
Homemade spring rolls & dim sims..
Shepards pie or a chicken pie…

  • Concoction meals..

Beef, capsicum, onion, any veggies you want.. Soy sauce, worstoshire sauce, sweet chilli, oyster sauce and water to cover all ingredients… cook it all together, once cooked, turn remaining water into a gravy and serve over rice..

you can create it to any taste you like.. use different meats, veggies and sauces… :D

  • If you live near a leopards chicken the variety is endless and delicious :)

  • baked potatoes with coleslaw, burgers full with salad, homemade lasagne, bacon and mushroom carbonara :)

  • a nice big hot pot would be different

  • Here are some of the things I cook regularly:

    Burgers
Roast potatoes (with avocado, cheese, sour cream etc)
Mini quiches (spinach & feta) with salad
Roast herb vegies & couscous (so easy & delicious)
Macaroni cheese (with cauli in the sauce to get some hidden veg into the kids)

I pretty much alternate those ideas through the week along with the normal meat & veg meals & it seems to help break the monotony.
