Hello!

DIY beauty products, soaps, cleaning product suggestions anyone? I am a single mother and full-time uni student and recently started making some of my own products to cut costs. I make shower gel that can also be used as hand soap, my own washing powder and have been using coconut oil for a great hair treatment. I also make eye make-up remover too.

I have been on-line and there are a lot of great things to make – but some have a lot of expensive ingredients. So I would love any ideas from anyone for easy and cheap DIY items.

Many Thanks.

  • Vinegar and bicarb soda to clean ovens and bathroom

  • I make homemade baby wipes made with paper towel, water, coconut oil and QV wash or homemade wash, there’s heaps of recipes for it on pinterest :)

  • Honey and brown sugar makes a great face scrub

  • Vinegar and water are great to use to clean!

  • I use 1/4 of vinegar and 3/4 of water to clean everything. Its in a spray bottle and I use old singlets, tops as cleaning rags. Its so cheap to make up and cleans everything really well.

  • Some amazing ideas here

  • Vinegar is A great fabric softener home rand $1 for 2 litres and great for benches too. Bicarbonate soda great for stove tops , and magnesium great for baths as beauty treatments

  • Thank you so much for the great responses and ideas. I have both Bicarbonate of soda and white Vinegar in the cupboard that I can use which is great….oh and oats too.

  • Bicarbonate of soda and white Vinegar are great for most household cleaning and are inexpensive.

  • Following this post :)

  • Keep it basic, sugar is a good scrub, oats a good cleanser and mask for pimples, and aloe Vera and milk good remedies for skin rashes/cuts/burns. Essential oils are cheaper in supermarkets, as long as they are a hundred percent essential it doesn’t matter the brand. Also use black and gold , generics are just as good.

  • Have you tried googling the items you want to make? There are some great low cost easy to make cosmetics things on the internet.

  • Bi-carb and vinegar can be used for many cleaning tasks. Lemon juice is good to add as well, or sometimes I add lavender oil for a nicer smell than vinegar!

If you google sugar scrub you can find some easy recipes for a nice exfoliating scrub.

  • I buy Bi-carb soda in bulk and use that for a variety of home cleaning and beauty products. One of my favourites is to clean those stains that tea and coffee put onto the mugs/cups a little sprinkling of bi-carb when washing up and the stains come off without any hassle. I also use it as a shampoo along with organic apple cider vinegar as a conditioner and my hair looks and feels great with no odour of vinegar once dried ;)

  • Hey, I have the Homestead & Survival facebook page marked and they always have really fantastic ideas.

  • Hi, I use honey & sea salt as a face scrub (it clears pimples & my skin feels great after I use it). I mop my floors with a mix of water, vinegar & dish liquid.
