Hello!

Do other Mums ignore the label and wash ‘dry clean only’ clothes at home?

  • It depends what it is. Somethings (like school blazers) respond to spot cleaning, but if you need the whole thing done a dry clean might be the answer. I have got away with washing machine dry clean only but don’t often do it.

  • Unless it’s something really special, yep, I chuck it in the washing machine, albeit on a gentle cycle.

  • So long as you put dry clean only items on a gentle/handwash cycle it’s perfectly fine. I have a lot of Cue/Forever New items and I always wash these in the machine – I buy them second hand and there’s no way I can afford dry cleaning!

  • I don’t ;)

  • If it’s something I can afford to ruin I will hand wash. If it’s something expensive, I would not try cleaning it myself.

  • I never do. I do a gentle hand wash depending on the item. If its woolens I lay them to dry on a bath towel after spreading them out and into shape.

  • I never do hahah

  • I do. If it says drycleaning I will hand wash the garment or spot clean it.

  • Yes, though I use a gentle wash.

  • I dont think I would buy any if they said dry clean only

  • Yes, I’ve never had anything dry cleaned in my whole life haha.

  • Nope not unless it’s wool or delicate material!

  • I don’t pay attention to labels – but my clothes don’t always last

  • Most clothes are pretty forgiving. But if a label specifies to not dry clean or not to iron or not wash in hot water, if you want to wear that item of clothing again…..it’s probably best you follow these instructions

  • I use gentle flakes and natural products to wash delicate clothing.
I prefer the smell of gentle flakes on clothes.

  • Can’t say I ever really look at the label on clothing! If the item looks like it might be a fabric that will ruin in the washing machine or shrink etc I’ll give it a quick hand wash. I’ve never had any issues with ruining clothes. But I do exercise a degree of caution and use common sense. I’ll generally look at what type of fabric the clothes are made from and make a decision how to wash based on that.

  • I hand wash items at home and take great care but everyone has different levels of comfort with washing clothes at home. I use mild and gentle washing products.

  • Dry clean only items, I will take them to the dry cleansers. Especially if it’s any expressive item that I don’t want ruined

  • If i want the item to last i would recommend following the label. It’s there for a reason

  • I still follow the tag instructions. Generally if I’m buying something dry clean only its pricey so I’m too chicken to ruin the item.
