Hello!

I colour my hair at home and I was wondering what other MoMs do. If you colour at home, what brand do you use, and if you go to a salon, how much is hair colouring these days?

  • I do mine at home because it’s convenient as I can just do it when I have the time and don’t have to make an appointment and also because it’s so much cheaper!
I use Schwarzkopf Live. On sale it’s 9 bucks a box.

  • I used to get it done at the Hairdressers but now finding it way too expensive so just do it myself at home now much cheaper and if you get the Mousse one its so much better

  • I do it at home – I prefer a salon, but can’t afford it. At home costs about $10, at a salon costs $100.

  • I love having someone else do my hair. If you’ve got an amazing colourist, its way better than anything out of a bottle.

  • i am a hairdresser lol. trust me it is still nice to get pampered by someone else!

  • I always do my hair at home. Going to a hairdresser to even get my haircut is a mission lol I tend to go with colours that are on special but my favourite brand is Olia.

  • I’m a DIY hair colour Mama Bear and LOVE LOVE LOVE Loreal Excellence. It seems to be the only one that doesn’t fade or make my hair dry. It is a little more expensive than other brands but totally worth it. Pays to shop around (Coles, Woollies or Priceline are my faves) as they are often special or even half price. Definitely hides the greys too :)

  • I colour mine at home once about every three months and it only costs about $20.

  • Majority of the time I dye my hair at home & sometimes at a salon for a treat. I now have blonde hair & had been doing the roots at a salon but it was costing me heaps so I bought products from Priceline & the results are the same, best of all it’s heaps cheaper.

  • I used to go to the hairdressers all the time before my kids were born, but now I can’t find the time to go, so I colour my hair myself now. I do miss the pampering though

  • I have a wonderful lady who comes to the house and does mine . I am so so lucky.

  • I was colouring own hair, but found an awesome hairdresser who is a single mum and has set up a salon at home and works around her kids school and activities, she charges $40 for cut n colour, about $80 cheaper than salon I used to go to.

  • I dye my own hair at home, I find it incredibly expensive to have it done at the salon. Once you find the product you like it is simple to purchase it when it is on sale at Coles or Woolies which is an added bonus.

  • I colour my hair at home usually with the help of a friend who was a hairdresser. I buy the dye and get her to put it in and cut my hair. I give her $30 to do both.

  • I have found having my hair coloured in a salon is way too expensive. My husband buys one suitable for me and he colours it for me. He does a great job

  • I have used Nice and Easy for many years and am always pleased with the results, before they brought out the Touch Up product, I used to cover my roots by mixing up a third of the usual product. As I have dark brown/black hair no one knew I dyed it. I like to stick to brands I am happy with but it is trial and error at first!!

  • I recently dyed my hair at home using L’Oreal products and was happy with the results. I can’t afford to go to a salon but would still like to add colour and highlights to my ordinary light brown hair.

  • I do mine at home. I don’t have the time nor the money to go to the salon. Last time, my husband put the colour in for me once the kids went to bed. Think I bought a box of colour from Kmart for about $10. Loved the colour. End result was awesome.

  • I go to a salon. While it does cost more than doing it at home myself, I’m really happy with my colour and it’s time out for myself.

  • I am very much a DIY hair girl.. I have been every colour under the sun and bleach and dye it all myself.. If I am using a permanent dye I like Clairol Nice ‘N Easy or Garnier, They are usually $10-15. With bright colours (which my hair mostly is, Ive been blue, purple silver and back to red just this year) I use semi dyes that I buy on EBay. La Riche Directions is my favourite brand, It’s vegan and conditions my hair aswel and leaves it feeling amazing after being so damaged from all the bleach. They are usually about $9 online.
Going to the salon is just so expensive for me, but it is nice to do once in a while to pamper yourself. xx
