Hello!

Just wanted to know if any MoM’s have pay TV, and if so, who watches it – you or your kids or both. We don’t have it, and don’t have any immediate plans to purchase. Do you think it’s worth it?

  • we have the full Foxtel package. I’m trying to persuade my husband that we don’t need it all – i find we are so much more efficient and go to bed earlier when we don’t watch tv so I am trying to remove some temptation. He’s digging his heels in a bit. I do like it – the lifestyle programs are great and you don’t get many of those shows on free to air. Plus i also like the old shows that i used to watch as a child or early adulthood like Murder She Wrote (my fav), Hogan’s Heroes, Diagnosis Murder. Friends, Seinfeld. I think I’m convincing myself to keep it!

  • I want less TV not more.

  • I agree with BellaB – I do not watch enough TV to subscribe to a service. I prefer to buy boxed sets to watch and keep.

  • no because netflix is way better. it is only 10 dollars a month or less and you can switch between any provider.

  • We have Foxtel and never use it. Instead we use Netflix which is way cheaper and has a great variety. i will be saying bye bye to Foxtel shortly.

  • We have the basic channels, drama and sport through Telstra and its enough for us.We only have the two us at home but through the the package we got and the fact we have a smart TV ,there’s plenty for the grandchildren visits. We would be lost without it.

  • No. I prefer to just buy the occasional DVD box set. But we don’t watch much tv overall.

  • We have foxtel. Worth it?? Homestly probably not as its expensive. But the kids shows are great and i get to use it to record shows i like and watch when the kids go to bed (if i domt fall asleep!) also getting benefits from docos and nature shows as my eldest loves these types of shows.

  • I am surrounded by friends and people who do use pay tv and most of them have the foxtel package. The thing is it depends on your lifestyle. It is worth it to them because they either enjoy having more channels on tv ( as they are sick of the old ones ) , and/ or they also stay at home more than they go out . My brother watches TV even as he cooks as the kitchen and living room is open and right next to each other . Nothing is cheap so I think if it meets your budget and you are mainly at home then it is worth it. I would not justify paying for channels if you are home only a couple of hours a week , it would just be waste. Good luck with your decision .

  • We don’t have pay TV but plan on Foxtel next year!

  • I plan on getting netflix within the next few weeks. So much cheaper than foxtel and ive heard great things about them. The best thing is that your not in a contract.

  • We had the Platinum package (all channels). Cost us heaps per month. Found that we didn’t really have time to watch it and only kids channels were being used. We have downgraded to just the kids package for that reason. I still don’t think its worth it unfortunately. All the shows (whether kids or other channels) are either old shows or they are repeated all the time. Would be more beneficial to spend $25 a month on new DVDs.

  • We have Netflix and foxtel. Really wish we didn’t have a contract with foxtel, because we really only use Netflix. It is great for the whole family.

  • I do not pay for pay TV and not likely too. I hope you get some answers that help.

  • I’m currently using Presto because I got 6 months for free as a Telstra customer. We should decide what to do by the end of the month. I think we won’t go on. My husband watched a lot of nice series. I didn’t use it that much instead.

  • We don’t have it and it seems the basic packages are expensive especially if we take into account we don’t have time to watch a lot of TV. we subscribed to Netflix, it’s far better value and has something for all members of the family.

  • I have purchased Foxtel for a few years now and I absolutely love it. The quality of the kids programs are outstanding and I can also have a little time out a watch my own programs later on. I would definately reccomend it. You only really need the basic package with the kids channels included and you will benefit.

  • We don’t have pay tv, and are not planning to sign up. If there’s nothing to watch on tv, we usually spend time on the computer. There are lots of shows and movies available for free over the internet.
