Hello!

Hi everyone!
The world of auto-immune disease was quite unknown to me till 12 years ago when, after suffering a miscarriage, I got vasculitis. Two fingers became black and hard, painful when I was hitting something. When I noticed that the same problem was starting with one toe, I went to a doctor, that diagnosed me immediately. I took some medicine against malaria and after a year the antibodies disappeared. I was very happy!!
Having had one auto-immune disease, makes you more prone to get others. Two years ago I started to be very tired, always feeling cold, gaining weight. The GP let me test my thyroid and it turned out I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, an auto-immune form of hypothyroidism. My own cells are thus attacking my thyroid. The medicines are more or less keeping it under control, even if I’m not completely happy with it.
Do you have an auto-immune disease? Did you get more than one? Would you like to share your experience?

  • No I don’t.
Good on you for reaching out and sharing your experience. It must be tough !

  • That’s fine! :-)

  • I’m not sure, sorry.

  • Indeed! Hashimoto has a genetic component. I’m not sure if that applies to all auto-immune illnesses. Do you know?

  • Very nasty stuff. She had to have both her armpits operated on and had open wounds for quite a while.
If only there was a magic cure for all these horrible illnesses!

  • Oh my! I’ve never heard of that Hidradenitis Suppurativa before. I checked in Internet what it is, and it looks quite nasty, really!! I can imagine how terrible your friend must feel!!
And, in your case, you’ve got the symptoms of all those illnesses? I hope you will be able to get the right diagnosis. Generally that’s the first important step. At least you then know what you are fighting.
Illnesses with identity crisis. Ih! Ih! :-)

  • Apparently I have a non specific auto immune disease which is of course untreatable. I have been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and my Dr suspected Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis but it turns out its there, its just having an identity crisis!
I know a few people who have 1 auto immune disease. Horrible horrible things! A really good friend of mine has Hidradenitis Suppurativa (spelling). Poor love has a terrible time :(

  • Hi! Thank you! What I find scary is that you can apparently heal from some auto-immune disease, but not from others. And if you had one in your life, you can get more. And thinking that illnesses like Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, even Multiple sclerosis, are auto-immune diseases… well, it’s better I don’t think about it and keep my fingers crossed! :-)

  • oh darl, poor you! i haven’t had this, i don’t know someone who has either. wow that must have been so scary for you to get that diagnosis. well give this post time, someone might be able to sympathise with you

  • I was really expecting not to be the only one suffering of an auto-immune disease! :-)
