Hello!

It seems that everytime that i buy crumpets, no matter where or what the date is on them, they go moudly very quickly. I wonder if this happens to anyone else. I have complained but all they do is refund my money and offer me more crumpets that I won’t take because they will go mouldy. Has anyone else had this experience?

  • I can’t say we’ve ever not eaten them straight away to know if they do go mouldy

  • I’ve not ever found them to go mouldy…maybe try storing them
    In a different place

  • Yes! I’ve stopped buying them for this reason unless we are going to eat them straight away…

  • I always keep mine in the fridge also last longer

  • i always buy then store them in the fridge. so i never get any mold problems.

  • I keep them in the fridge or if longer I freeze in packets of two.

  • I find storing them in the fridge helps them last longer. I also freeze extras in packets of two for easy to get breakfasts.

  • As soon as I buy the crumpets it goes straight into the fridge and glad wrapped . It has some sort of ingredient in it that doesn’t stay fresh for too long anyway so best to eat quickly .

  • I individually wrap them in cling wrap and freeze them. Pull them out when I want one, they don’t take long to defrost

  • I don’t think they have a long shelf life. I was in the supermarket yesterday (29th) and the ones on the shelf had an expiry date of either 31st or 1st.

  • Yes,all the time, i think it’s a common problem. I buy mine, open them and individually wrap them in glad wrap, place in a freezer gage sealant freeze. When needed, pull one out, defrost in microwave for 20 secs and cook as normal. Last longer and no mould!

  • I have had this issue with every other bread product imaginable but not crumpets! But I also realised my bread was near the kettle and a few other hot things that caused them to sweat in the bag

  • Love crumpets,l glad wrap once open and have never had a problem,or leave in fridge.

  • Ours don’t normally last
But brought some 2 weeks ago and by the 2nd day they was mouldy.
andwe had 2 in happy little campers

  • Like many others, I always freeze mine straight away. I open the pack and freeze into sets of 2 wrapped in foil. Then they last ages!

  • Yes, I find that happens quite often but I live in hot, humid Queensland so I am sure that contributes to it. I usually freeze my crumpets in lots of two and take out of the freezer the night before I want to have them. This works well for me as I enjoy my crumpets toasted.

  • Crumpets have a high moisture content, you’ll notice sometimes when you open a fresh pack and they are quite ‘sticky’. Hence they will get mouldy quickly :)

  • I freeze them individually in snap lock bags (if you freeze more than one they get stuck together and are hard to separate but you could put baking paper between them) I find this time of year, especially when it’s humid, bread, buns , crumpets etc go mouldy quickly.

  • I put them in the fridge until I open & put the remainder in zip lock bags so they don’t dry out. Freeze them if you are not planning to eat them before their use by date.

  • I always keep a packet in the freezer and another in the fridge. They usually get eaten too quickly to get mouldy around here.
